Albie's cottage: Cute secluded timber home on a bush block by the sea

Albies cottage is a small double story timber house easy walking distance to the Killiecrankie bay. It is homely, neat, calm and quiet, and furnished in a simple and practical way. The place can be described as shabby chic rather than stainless-steel hotel-standard. There is a small upstairs bedroom with a queen bed and an upstairs study with a single bed, a double sofa-bed, a good collection of novels and cookery books, some DVDs and DVD player, and a long desk. Downstairs there is a kitchen-lounge and a small laundry and bathroom. The large corner seat in the loungeroom can double up as a spare bed. The cottage stands on a half-acre block, and cannot be seen from the road. It is on a bit of a hill, and is not really suited to people with mobility issues. Because of the steep stairs, it is also not really suitable for small children or those who find stairs difficult to navigate. It would be ideal for people finishing a project of some sort, or simply looking for a quiet holiday close to the beach.
There are basic cooking and cleaning supplies in the kitchen, and all linen and towels, a sewing kit, and some tools. However, there is no shop in the village, and the supermarket, pub and airport are around 40 minutes' drive in Whitemark. While it is in theory possible to do without a car, in practice you would almost certainly need to rent one on the island. During school holidays, rental cars are difficult to book, so please plan ahead.

Killiecrankie diamonds:
Killiecrankie is well known for Killiecrankie Diamonds, a form of topaz that can be found on a local beach. For those who would like to try their hand at prospecting, there are two knowledgeable local residents - Alan and Margaret Wheatley - who can help. They live in the Killiecrankie village, a few houses down from the cottage, on the same side of the road. Their phone is 63598560, mobile 0407598560. They hire out panning equipment, show you what the stones look like, and give you a couple of little maps with where you can find them. Alan asked that you phone them first, and work out a good time to drop in.
If you do find some Killiecrankie Diamonds - or decide to buy some - there is a local jeweler, Sandro Donati, who can make them into beautiful pieces of jewelry for you. Sandro lives at Killiecrankie, and his workshop is in the White Shack [behind the pub] in Whitemark. His mobile is 0429 383 375.

Albie's Cottage
If you are looking for an intimate, tastefully decorated timber cottage, immersed in amongst beautiful flowering natives with parrots, currawongs and various honey eaters as your closest neighbours, this is the cottage for you. It is quiet and peaceful with amazing views of Mt Killiecrankie from the upstairs windows and balcony by day, and stars through the bedroom skylights by night.

Lovely little house with a very well equipped kitchen and pantry. Walking distance to Killiecrankie beach. The only negative was the steep driveway up to the house.

Just what I wanted
We had wonderful weather so beachcombing and bushwalking during the day and using the cabin as a base was perfect. The cabin had everything we could need in it. I couldn't be happier. The second bedroom was great for our kids (they loved it), but worth noting the mattress in the fold out bed would not be ideal for adults, well at least not older stiff backed adults like me.

Wonderful week at Albies
We had a wonderful stay at Albies cottage! This humble and secluded little cottage was well supplied with cooking equipment and utensils and we found ourselves enjoying many breakfasts on the little top deck overlooking the killiecrankie range. The cottage was neat and tidy on arrival and a cosy place to stay.

One of a kind
Albie’s Cottage at Killiecrankie is such an amazing place on Flinders Island. It has it all; a warm, friendly cosy atmosphere. One of the best views you’ll ever see over the ocean and Mt Killiecrankie plus the tranquility and beauty hardly found these days and practically off grid. So much to do and the snorkelling is next to none. My friend and I landed on our feet with this wonderful stay! Thank you to Pavla and family!! I’ll be back. Carol

Care, cottage and Killicrankie
This gorgeous mini cabin was a home away from home for our week in Flinders Island. Killiecrankie is an idyllic and beautiful place. The clean air and beaches provide another level of wonder in this divine island. Pavla is a gorgeous host whose hospitality, while virtual and remote, was perfect! Humour and care go a long way to making someone feel welcome and cared for. Pavla has both in spades. Thank you! 💜

Ideal coastal cottage, small but easy to live with, nothing to fussy but all that you need for a great beach stay. Wouldn't suit anyone wanting to watch TV, but that didn't bother us, and why wouldn't you be outdoors anyway.

This was perfect, on the other side of the Island Killiekrankie was beautiful. Very happy how clean it was and thought this was a perfect get away, 5 to 10 mins walk to the beach and that was one of the best beaches on the Island. Defiantly worth the stay.

Sunrise for days
What a lovely place to stay in, it has all the basics and we lacked for nothing. With a bedroom which has awesome views we found it hard up every day. We love the remote location and exploring all the untouched beaches. You will need a Telstra sim if you plan to have internet but it is really nice just to unplug and read books all day as well. Would definitely come back as we had such a relaxing time.
