Accommodation In Kingaroy
Kingaroy lies in the heart of Queensland’s South Burnett region, surrounded by red soil farmlands and low rolling hills. The largest centre in the region, Kingaroy has quite the cosmopolitan buzz and a surprising array of shops and services for a small rural town. Come and soak up the relaxed country vibe, sip some local wine, and explore the intriguing red soil landscapes that make Kingaroy so charming. Forget the city lights and check out our range of Kingaroy accommodation now!
Traditionally the centre of Australia’s peanut and navy bean industries, you can’t miss the Peanut Company of Australia’s twin peanut silos in the town’s CBD. Today, Kingaroy can also add wine to its repertoire! A rapidly-expanding local wine industry has put Kingaroy on the map. Just outside of town there are several wineries, with more about 55km to the north. There’s also the Booie Range Distillery, the third distillery in Queensland, which creates a range of wine-based flavoured liqueurs, including a Peanut Paso Doble. To really savour the region, join a local tasting tour!
To get a sight of the lands these flavours come from, head to Kingaroy’s two lookouts: at nearby Mt Wooroolin and Apex Park in town. You’ll get panoramic views all the way to the sea! The distinctive red soils provide quite a dramatic contrast to the green rolling hills. A unique ant species found here adapted to this colour, and Kingaroy was named after the aboriginal word for this red ant, Kingaroori. For a scenic drive through the lands, head to nearby Booie Range or wind your way into the Bunya Mountains National Park, 45 minutes away.
For more fun that doesn’t involve leaving town, check out the town’s Heritage Precinct, including Carroll’s Cottage, Kingaroy’s first building, and the Carrollee Hotel and the area’s earliest council chambers. To get the lowdown on what you’re seeing, poke around the Kingaroy Heritage Museum – which is right next door to the Kingaroy Visitor Info Centre, so don’t forget to pick up some maps and ideas for your Kingaroy holiday! There’s also a local art gallery and a number of local craft shops for some warm country gifts or new homely decorations.
Kingaroy is a charming little country town that won’t leave you stranded without a shop in sight. The beautiful rolling hills, the local tipples on offer, and the local heritage on show will make you forget about the busy life, and slow down to enjoy it! Come and see what the thriving heart of South Burnett is all about, just two-and-a-half hours from Brisbane and nearly three from Hervey Bay. Book your Kingaroy hotel with us today!
