Snorkelling is the prime activity on the island, so grab your flippers and mask and head out off the beach to two great little coral gardens just off Sunshine Beach. Some of the best snorkelling is already set up with ropes to help you stay on course, so head over to Koh Bu Tang and see if you can spot a blue spotted sting ray. If you didn’t bring your own gear, many stores along Walking Street have masks and fins to rent.

Scuba diving is growing in popularity around Koh Lipe, with many of the surrounding islands offering tours to explore beautiful soft corals, reef gardens and even a shipwreck. Tours are available for both experienced divers, and those seeking to get certification, so why not give it a shot?

Day trips to nearby islands and beaches are easy to book through one of the many long-tail boat operators. Cross over to Koh Adang and hike to the pretty Pirate Falls, or have lunch with some mischievous monkeys on Koh Tong. Sailing is great fun for the afternoon and you can book courses as a novice or experienced sailor. Otherwise just grab a couple of sea kayaks and explore the islands at your own pace.
