Kuching Holiday Packages

From towering skyscrapers in the city centre to the wildlife-filled tropical rainforests, Kuching is an eclectic locale that blends the old with the new. Located on the northern shores of Borneo and two hours from Kuala Lumpur, this Malaysian metropolis has an array of attractions catering to all tastes and budgets, and our Kuching holiday packages can get you there.

Things to Do in Kuching

Start your Kuching holiday off with a leisurely stroll along the 1.3 km stretch of Kuching Waterfront, aptly nicknamed "The People Place." Cafes, stalls and an ornate Chinese pagoda line the scenic promenade. Art lovers will appreciate the unusual metallic sculpture at Hornbill Fountain near the historical marker. Are your cameras at the ready? Snap away!

In the afternoon, you can hop on a wooden boat—no re-enacting that famous scene from Titanic, please—and cross the river to the Sarawak Orchid Garden. The beautifully kept grounds are home to over 75,000 species of plants—well, that’s what we’re told we haven’t gone around counting them ourselves—including Sarawak's state flower, the Normah Orchid. This area is known for its many national parks, and eco-tours and jungle treks are popular options during Kuching holidays. Bako National Park is a firm favourite with wildlife enthusiasts, while the limestone fairy caves in the nearby town of Bau are worth a visit too. The Great Orangutan Project is a sanctuary for rescued animals and provides an excellent way to view orangutans, sun bears and exotic birds.

The city centre is small enough to be explored by foot, but for easy access to national parks and the rest of the countryside, book one of Wotif’s Kuching car hire deals.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

No holiday is complete without lugging home an armload of souvenirs for your friends and family, so we’ve done the early footwork for you. If you want to shop for brand name clothes and cheap electronics in an air-conditioned complex, then the Spring Shopping Mall is for you. For more authentic souvenirs from your Malaysian adventure, head to the Main Bazaar, where you can find local artworks, silk shawls and traditional Malay handicrafts. A tip from us to you—the latter option is where you go to find presents for those tough-to-shop for friends. Trust us.

When you're hungry, there's a variety of options available, and our Kuching holiday deals mean you’ll have plenty of money left in your pocket to spend on local grub. The neon-lit Top Spot Food Court offers a varied selection of freshly caught seafood, while the open-air market is another cheap hotspot to sample traditional dishes, including hearty beef noodle soup and shaved ice. For a sit-down meal with all the trimmings, book a table in one of the five-star hotels located on the waterfront.

Once you're full, it's time to hit the streets. From swanky bars that wouldn't look out of place in London's West End to enormous clubs that pump out dance music until the wee hours, Kuching has a huge selection of nightlife venues to choose from. Some luxury hotels also have attached nightclubs that attract Borneo's jet-setters and “It Crowd.”

What's Next?

Whether you're searching for wildlife or just a wild nightlife, Wotif will help get you there. We can bundle together hotels and flights to secure you the best deals on Kuching packages.
