I want to share my first disappointing hotel experience in Japan after spending over 200 hotel nights in the country in recent years. I prefer to book a larger room, so when I saw that the OMO5 hotel had a room advertised to accommodate up to six people at a reasonable price—though they didn’t specify the room size—I decided to book it.
When I arrived, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the room was essentially a large bunk bed taking up most of the space, the distance between the floor and the top bunk is just 5 feet (about 150 cm). I kept bumping my head every five minutes and had to hunch the entire time!
I went to the front desk and pleaded with them to change my room type, offering to pay any price difference. However, they flatly refused, stating that my booking was non-refundable and non-changeable. They told me that if I wanted a different room, I would have to make a completely new reservation—essentially booking and paying for two rooms.
Needless to say, I was very disappointed. This hotel obviously has a following and plenty of people like it, but it was not for me (at least this bunk bed room type)
In the end, I left the room unused, and moved to a different hotel.
