The property is ok for what you pay, but be aware that a room on the front of the building facing the main road gets a lot of traffic noise, particularly at night. There is also an issue with the property only having two elevators (and one of those was not working on one of the days of our stay). The wait time was long and the lift very crowded as it stops at each floor. On a couple of occasions it was easier to take the stairs. Breakfast was ok, but not 4 star level. We had a meal from the restaurant as a take away in our room one night when we returned later and it was completely cold. Staff were great, no issues there.

I recommended this hotel to everyone coming to Kyoto, you can build the itinerary around the hotels location as a lot of Kyoto’s attractions are around it like, Yasaka shrine, Kiyomizu dera, Gion district. Very friendly and helpful staff

One of the staff who worked at front desk, i think his name is Sagar, he helped me out when my luggage wasnt delivered from toyo, i received 3 lugagges and was missing one, i asked him to helped me to call Yamato and follow up for me, he called and even made sure that the luggage was delivered to my room when it arrived. He was very helpfully.

So close to the street car and easy to hop on and get around town. This hotel was really lovely and the staff were spectacular. For those of you westerners…the showers are a little funny to get used to but enjoyable overall.

It’s a a very nice hotel with the Japanese theme which makes it very charming. The staff go out of their way to help. The breakfast is nice. They also have a public bath on the property if you want to experience it.

Beautiful JAPANESE STYLE Doubletree
Need to put the Japanese Style in CAPS as folks clearly did not read the description or look at photos before staying here. It is absolutely gorgeous but yes, the rooms are small and beds are low to the floor as it is Japanese inspired. The restaurant is really nice, fair size, breakfast buffet, and good on the current menu for dinner. Do not miss the Japanese baths - one for men and one for women. Highly recommend!
