The area was nice and safe and quiet for the most part. Kids are definitely a part of this area so if you find kids a problem I'd look elsewhere. There are nice quiet times to be had though especially in the evenings when the kids are indoors or heading to bed after an exhausting day on the lake.
We took our 2 Border Collies and they had no problem jumping in and out of the lake from the dock near the shore but if you have a dog less athletic you should plan on helping them in and out so bring your water shoes. There is no "beach" type access to the water just a large step down off the dock. The dock is nice and has a nice bench and place to fish from. We caught bluegills galore and a Pike from the dock. We mis-read the ad and thought a boat of some type was included but it is not. I had asked about it prior to booking but never heard back from the host about it.
The sleeping arrangements are not at all for 5. It is 1 small bed (maybe a full size or oversized twin) but it was too small for both me and my husband to sleep in and we fit fine in a queen. If there's more than one of you, you'll need a cot or you'll be sleeping in a recliner that doesn't go flat or anything.
Be sure to take your own carbon monoxide/smoke detector combo sensor due to the age of the furnace and the ventilation. There are none in the cabin.
Don't forget, there's no TV or Wi-Fi so if you want to watch a movie on a rainy day or at night, bring your own monitor to cast to from your phone or tablet.
