Summary:
What was once the local dance hall for Charleston Lake residents in the 1900s is now an incredibly cozy and colourfully curated lakehouse getaway. The 3-BR cottage is a place to relax, recharge, and let your imagination run wild. Dream up all the shenanigans that could have taken place within the dance hall walls a hundred years ago and create your own lakeside memories.
Between the many outdoor spaces and thoughtfully decorated indoors there is no shortage of inspiration or fun to be had.
The Space:
There are so many favourite nooks at the dance hall lakehouse and different times to enjoy them. We love: early cozy mornings with coffee in the screened-in porch or down by the lake, lunch under the trees on the side deck, a hot summers day swim to cool off midday, enjoying music with afternoon cocktails in the dance hall with the windows wide open and the breeze blaring through, and an evening fire either in the hall or out by the fire pit — just to name a few.
The Dance Hall can sleep 8 with one queen-size bed (in what we call the Tree Fort bedroom - see photos), two full beds (both in screened-in rooms), and one queen-size pull-out sofa bed (in the main hall). Every bedroom boasts views of the trees and sounds of lake living (between the birds, loons, waves, and wind, you are sure to have a memorably relaxing sleep).
Two of our bedrooms are in screen rooms making for a luxury camping style experience on down-topped mattresses and down duvets. You and your friends/family will be fighting for who gets to sleep out there. Please note that the Lemonade Stand bedroom (see photos) has two screened walls and there is potential for a little spray in severe summer storms.
Among each nook, there are trinkets and books that tell tales of times passed. We encourage guests to explore the many shelves, trunks, and drawers, reading articles and pages that help immerse themselves in another, simpler time. There’s no shortage of vintage furniture and decor but you’ll find that it’s the perspective you gain from dreaming up another time that is most abundant here. Our favourite? Definitely the collection of delicate glassware that is original to the dance hall, we recommend crafting a cocktail and sipping on the front porch next to what we call the Lemonade Stand — the half wall that was once where lemonade and drinks were served to Dance Hall frequenters. What a blast from the past.

The Neighborhood:
Although it's hard to find a reason to want to leave the property, we do enjoy the countryside drive into Athens (12 mins) to pick up any last-minute groceries or supplies, a bottle of wine from the LCBO, baked goods from Willard's Bakery (if you're lucky you can score the fried cakes) or Luke's European Style Market, or a tasty hot meal from Ben's Country Canteen chip truck.
A little further in Lyndhurst (15 mins), you can pick up a hot meal or two heaping scoops to-go at Moroni's Post. Otherwise, we suggest keeping it local at the Dance Hall.
