The quiet rural setting ensures a private, relaxing stay at the same price as you would pay in a motel. So come and enjoy a comfortable, relaxing stay in a rural environment.

There is a lovely bush walk up a nearby hill if you fancy some exercise: If you have time I recommend a drive along the sand at the waters edge of Waitarere Beach which is not far from here. (URL HIDDEN)
Getting around
Brown Lama Cottage is located 80 minutes from Wellington and allowing gateway access to the South Island without the hustle and bustle of the big city. For those people heading north to Auckland, this offers a good place to break before your onward journey. The Cottage is a 3 min drive to Levin for guests to access groceries or restaurants.
Other things to note
We are less than 5 min drive from the start of the Kohitere Trig walk way. It is a strenuous bush walk. But if you would prefer a gentler stroll than the lake Papaitonga walk is a better option and has spectacular native bush. If you have young children than a visit to the Levin Adventure Park is recommended. Its free and has 90 five-star reviews on Trip Advisor. We are a 10-15 min drive from Owlcatraz Native Bird and Wildlife Park. Also on the must do list for the area is to drive your car along the sand at the waters edge along Waitarere Beach. Best to time this with low-tide though.

The Hostess was an absolute delight and available for any queries day and night. The pool was magical and the cottage interior was absolutely 5 star. I'd highly recommend this 'Slice of Paradise' for anyone wanting time out in a very restorative setting.

Loved the location and the house was clean, quiet and spacious. Only 2 small blemishes 1. Bedside lights didn't work ( annoying for a reader) 2. Whiteboard code for wifi didn't work ( annoying for a online reader) But I'd definitely stay there again

Comfortable, but lacking basics.
The actual accommodation was really nice, but there it stopped. There was no care or responsibility or consideration. Right from the start, after booking, communication was slow. On arrival, as there was no ‘welcome’ message or other information, we had to phone the owner? and ask for the wifi password. Only then - after we asked about the pool - were we told it might be unsafe to use! (Use at own risk!) The only ‘basics’ supplied, apart from tea, instant coffee and sugar, was a cake of soap and a small jug of milk. There was no sanitiser, paper towels, wipes or QR code. There were, however lots of cobwebs. There was an information booklet of sorts, but it dated back to 2012 and the contact cellphone number was disconnected. There was no helpful information about how things worked, such as the heat pump. Oh it did win an award in 2015, but that was when it was called The Brown Cow and possibly under different ownership/management? I’m an experienced accommodation provider, so I know how easy it is to add little touches that make guests feel welcome and wanted. This was not the feeling my daughter and I were given here.

We weren’t at the property originally organised but host provided an even better property to compensate for this and it exceeded expectations. It was closer to the area we wanted to be in so worked well! We particularly were excited about the animals at the original listing and this was still possible at new property and feed was provided to us to do this.

Clean & Tidy - comfy beds
Great little house in the country but close to town - loved having the animals nearby. A reflector on the gate or sign would be good to make it easier to find in the dark. We will be back.
