Middleham is famous for its 12th-century castle, once the home of Richard III, making a focal point as it stands up high in this pretty village. You can take a tour of the spectacular keep and ruins, while taking in wonderful views of Wensleydale from the tower. Set around two cobbled village squares you will find a selection of tea rooms and traditional pubs serving food and local ales, individual shops and galleries. Renowned for its race horse training, you will often hear the clip clop of horses hooves as they make their way through the village up onto the gallops. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
