Booking a no-review property is a risk
VRBO said "new listing" with 0 reviews. Everyone's got to start somewhere, so I took the risk and booked, figuring I'd write a nice first review.First off, the interior DID look like the photos, that's good. And it was mostly cleaned, so far so good. The neighborhood windows had bars, but that's typical for Hispanic LA.That's sort of the end of the good. The listing read "Cook to your heart’s content in the full-size kitchen"Not full size. The dishes consisted of a single fork, four spoons, and three dinner knives. Plus a whisk, corkscrew, a fry pan and a knife that looked impressive but could not cut a cucumber. No pot. The kitchen was sort of good for microwaving a burrito. No dish rack: sticky wet plates in the cabinet. The lovely marble showers were OK, but the cracks were full of gunk and mold, the shower curtain Temu cheap. Paint was bubbling from the ceiling. The bug screens were torn. Whoever painted the place painted right over the outside light. The vanity cheap, and had already rusted. Moldy & linty washer. There were holes in the outside stucco wall at the electrical. The place was cold and the attic: no insulation. No building permit?Microwave fridge TV were still wrapped in plastic, never removed. The view out the window was a pile of empty wine bottles. The place looked like it was staged for Instagram, not for actual living.Host communication was hard, and uncertain. I finally reached him: a flipper who lives nowhere nearby.
