Smelled terrible when we went in. Opened door and window and had to spray perfume to try to rid the damp musty smell. Air conditioner was all rusty and sketchy to use. Bedspreads looked like they were from the 1970’s. This place needs a complete makeover. It is very tired.

I have traveled extensively both internationally & domestically & have never given a hotel a “1” rating, however, in all fairness to travelers, I must say this hotel deserves a “1.” The lady who checked us in was very nice, but it went downhill from there. The room does not look anything like the pictures; in reality, the room is old and run down. The mattress on 1 of the beds should have been thrown away long ago. It had a huge valley in the center & when you sat on the edge, all you felt was the metal frame around the springs. The wallpaper is coming off the walls. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink & the faucet in the tub dripped constantly. On top of that, there’s mold around the tub, on the bathroom ceiling, & in the air conditioner vents. The A/C unit was a window air conditioner, but it was so dirty and moldy that you were constantly breathing unhealthy air. Plus, the curtain completely covered the A/C unit so it couldn’t cool the room even if you used it. The continental breakfast consisted of toast, coffee, tea, 2 choices of dry cereal (but I didn’t see any milk), orange juice, & processed egg patties. When I told the staff (owner?) about the no hot water, & about the bed, he said the problem with the bed was that it slipped off the frame! (The reality is, the beds were on platforms, not frames.) It was obvious they didn’t care & nothing is going to be done to improve things. You definitely DO NOT want to stay here.

Water in toilet was running permanently and was noisy especially at night, mattresses were a catastrophy, breakfast was ok but very limited. They do have billiard tabels for free and table tennis inside the bar/restaurant and a good variety of drinks in the bar.

The air conditioners were full of black mold inside and on the outside casing. I asked to be moved to another room with a clean A/C unit they showed me 4 units all had the same issue as well as some units had the light on indicating that the filter needed to be cleaned. I would not recommend this property to anyone it is not a healthy environment to be in.

Totally disappointing...I do not recommend.
Heavy smell of cleaning when we arrived, later the smoke smell was awful, smoking allowed outside all rooms had smoke cans outside. There were no towels in the room and we had to go back to the front desk and get some. Drunk guys left the lounge about 1:00am and stood outside their door two doors down, talking loudly until 4am. Breakfast was very limited, did have toast, cereal and some premade egg thing. No fruit, no yogurt or muffin or bagel, coffee & orange juice was ok....the advertising says it's the only breakfast in town...but it's definitely nothing to brag about. Might be better off in Sydney.

i found bugs in the bathtub in the morning, paint splatters from an amateur paint job in the bathroom's fixtures, mouldy caulking around tub, room wasn't cleaned over a 2 day stay, good water pressure in the shower but the temperature would fluctuate drastically. breakfast was supposed to be available as of 730 am but there was no staff on site and locked doors still at 745 am with a line up of people wanting breakfast and to check out. no staff at front desk past a certain time in the evening, no one answering the phone numbers provided on the front door, free continental breakfast was not of the standard it should be for a 3 star property. you can hear your neighbours through the walls. it's way overpriced for what you get. only good thing is the free wifi and the location if you are going to the fortress.

Look for another place.
Room smelt musty and moody. Very outdated. When we opened the hide-a-bed, there were bugs. Would not stay there again or recommend it.

We had to change room due to mold in the bathroom. We got another room without a problem but had to ask to get the refrigerator moved too. No microwave or coffee in the room. Great location with very nice people but the inn needs a lot of work. On the plus side the Jake’s restaurant inside the motel was very very good.

The motel is in need of renovation. The outside door was missing the deadbolt lock, and only had a basic door knob lock. We chose this motel for its closeness to Fort Louisbourg, but should have just stayed in Sydney. Not worth the $150/night
