Riverfront Cabin! Fireplaces, Kayaks & Hobby Farm

Over 500 5-star reviews! Visit to our mountain oasis for a recharge! Acres of riverfront and gorgeous views, right from the porch! Use our water equipment and private river access in the spring, summer, or fall. Cozy up next to the authentic, stone, wood-burning fireplace in the winter. An easy drive to the Luray Caverns, Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest, Massanutten or Bryce Resorts for skiing, and much more. Fresh farm eggs and firewood sold on site. This cabin is your next vacation!

We have three unique cabins named after famous pioneers: Daniel Boone, Buffalo Bill, and Bass Reeves. Our Annie Oakley pier is great for launching kayaks or canoes or just fishing and hanging out. Walk our Lewis and Clark trail to enjoy wildlife and river views. Let the little ones wade into the river and splash around at Pocahontas Point.

Our Bass Reeves cabin is our smallest cabin at about 1,200 sf. This historic, pioneer style cabin features hand hewn logs dating back to the eighteen-hundreds and one-of-a-kind paintings by the original owner. The cabin was lovingly relocated from West Virginia and nestled on 16 acres in an idyllic setting along the bank of the Shenandoah River. Enjoy morning coffee on the large front porch while you watch the beauty of the mountains and river unfold. Spend the day canoeing, kayaking, tubing, or fishing and the evening catching fireflies, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, grilling, playing board games, or sipping spirits by the river. Enjoy one of TWO wood burning fireplaces (one in the living room and another in the master bedroom).

**Fireplace Closed April 1 to October 31**

Riverfront Pioneer Cabins, LLC is a licensed rental. Nightly rate includes state and county lodging taxes.

FIRM NO PETS POLICY (non-negotiable due to liability reasons; please do not ask for an exception). Animal lovers welcome, however! We do have pets on the property...dogs, cats, chickens, and a variety of forest creatures.

On site is a mile long trail that loops around the property. You have access to plenty of water equipment: tubes, kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes...enough water equipment for all guests to enjoy. We have plenty of adult life vests as well and four youth vests. You can access the river directly from our pier. There is a firepit next to the cabin and one down by the pier next to the river.

The cabin is minutes from the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest hiking trails. About a ten minute drive away are shops perfect for antiquing, the Luray Caverns, an adorable movie theater, restaurants, zip lining adventure, animal rescue zoo, distillery, golf course, brewery, vineyard, and the Luray Caverns. We are also within an easy and scenic drive to area wineries and Massanutten and Bryce ski resorts. See our Guidebook for more places to visit!

While we hope you spend most of your time outdoors, we do have a TV, WiFi, DVDs, Roku, and board games. Lots of toys/games for children; perfect detox for them to unplug!

**Please note that due to our location, our WiFi service is limited. It is spotty...works great some days and horrible other days. We are at the mercy of the one area provider.

We live on the property in the barnhouse. We are available via app messaging, which is the best way to reach us. You might see us around the property during your stay. We love interacting with guests but also respect your privacy.

We are on 16 acres and surrounded by farmland and the Shenandoah River, nestled neatly between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten mountains. There are three cabins on site but plenty of privacy and room to roam and explore. Each cabin has their own fire pit and grill.

Great little getaway
We enjoyed our stay at the Bass Reeves Cabin. It was a perfect location for visiting Shenandoah National Park. The weather wasn’t great during our stay so we did not get to use the water toys on the river. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Cell phone service was not great (we have Verizon) and the internet was spotty, but everything else was great. The host was wonderful and prompt on communication and very accommodating.

BEST CABIN IN SHENANDOAH!
Cozy, quiet and full of amenities! The real wood fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom really set this place apart! We saw a bald eagle and about 20 deer during our stay as well (Feb 2024). Jennifer is a top-notch host that responds timely but also respected privacy. We will book again!

By the river
This is a lovely cabin/house - very close to the river! Kayaks and tubes are provided. It is also not far from Luray - so restaurants, bakeries and delis are a convenient distance. We enjoyed being close to Skyline Drive as well.

Dreamy cabin
This place is so great. We eloped in Shenandoah and stayed here for our mini-honeymoon. We loved the cabin, the fireplaces, the location, the water toys, and the owner’s prompt communication. They even had eggs and firewood available for purchase.

Beautiful scenery.
We were looking forward to getting away from the masks and relaxing. This was just the place. The cabin was cozy and nicely decorated. Walking the trail every day was nice, we even saw some deer drinking from the rivers edge. We fished every morning and my husband caught a small mouth bass.

What a gem
Just an hour away from home...we found solitude, fun, and a complete cabin camping experience. We cooked, walked, swam, fished, kayaked and tubed to meet everyone’s needs. We enjoyed hearing of the property’s story and meeting our hospitable owners. Return visit, of course!!!

Beautiful inside and out!
Wow, what an amazing cabin and location! All of the touches inside were thoughtfully placed and VERY cozy. From the living area to the master bedroom, we could have been happy just staying inside, reading a book, or watching a movie fireside if the weather was cold. However, we were there during a perfect, 80 degree weekend - so the river beckoned! We brought our own kayak and SUP, but they have plenty to choose from including tubes if you want to keep your equipment home. From just exploring off their pier to driving down a few minutes to the bridge and launching our float, the area has plenty to offer. And after a fun day on the water? A trail walk followed by an outside fire and later, star-gazing - this place has it all! Thank you for your hospitality and we can't wait to come back!

A special place
My spouse and I have stayed at many vacation rentals over the years, but this one stands out -- for its beautiful and peaceful surroundings; immediate access to a scenic stretch of the Shenandoah River; historic and spacious (not to mention clean and well-appointed) cabin; and importantly, highly responsive and welcoming hosts. Have already recommended to friends who are looking for a retreat location.

Perfect Getaway !!
Jennifer was an absolute pleasure to book with. The cabin itself was perfect. The property was amazing. The cabin was clean and ready for us when we got there. It was so peaceful to sit on the covered porch and enjoy my morning coffee, listening to the bird's sing. You have a clear vire of the river from your front porch. You will need King size bedsheets and Towels. Jennifer has provided plates, cups, cookware, etc. at the property, no need to bring those from home. THEY HAVE A COFFEE MAKER !!!! Bless Her. This property was so perfect for us, memories were made here and we will be back. Thank you so much for everything.

Cozy cottage for a romantic get-away
This cabin is everything as described and more. It was very cozy and welcoming. We enjoyed a fire every evening and snuggling up with a book or a movie. We went out during the day for sight seeing, but would love to return to just hang out at the cabin. It would be great to go again in warmer weather to enjoy the river!

Good Place to Disconnect and Unwind
Jennifer was great in communicating what to expect from the place. The information provided ahead of time was great for both information about the place and surrounding area. Jennifer noted that Verizon would not have signal in that location, and that was accurate (and appreciated)! Jennifer was also responding to replies really quickly. The place was clean and has pretty well everything that you would need. While the cabin does not include linens, it was nice that there was one kitchen towel when I arrived, which made it easy to settle in before unpacking a single bag. The walking trail on the property allows for an easy escape from any cabin fever (or satisfy your step count for the hour). There are plenty of trails nearby to get out for additional hikes in the area. The Massanutten Mountain Trail to Kennedy Peak was pretty easy to hike, provided a great view at the top, and was only about ten minutes away. While Verizon signal was weak, the WiFi / network connection provided ample digital entertainment. We streamed Netflix and a hockey game (at separate times) without issue. We also enjoyed the deck of cards that were available in the cabin. We hadn't planned on playing any games and really enjoyed the opportunity to unplug and chat without any technology involved.

Nostalgia along the Shenandoah
Bass Reeves is a place of making sweet new memories while feeling the nostalgia of a simpler time. There are kind messages from previous renters tucked around the home, thanking the hosts for a magical retreat beside the lazy Shenandoah River. What can I say? This place is a perfectly charming, cozy, and spacious retreat! I would recommend this for absolutely anyone who needs a quiet place to just be with yourself or loved ones. J Cordell

Peaceful and cozy retreat
My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Bass Reeves Cabin in November to serve as a home base for our visit to Shenandoah National Park. Jennifer, the host, was more than gracious and it was obvious that she went out of her way to make our experience absolutely lovely. The cabin itself was the perfect size and the bedroom was very large with its own fireplace which was a perfect way to unwind after a long hike at the park:) The land surrounding the cabin was beautiful, private and serene. We walked the grounds and took a look at the river (although in Nov it was too cold for a kayak;) We are grateful to have found such a cozy retreat so close to the park. Will definitely recommend!

Mountain/Waterfront Getaway
This property is worth every dollar! The cabin is exactly what is shown in the photos and much more. The cabin is completly surrounded by beautiful views including the wonderful Shenandoah river. The cabin itself was very clean, the kitchen had all of the essentials such as cooking supplies, even a variety of spices. There were 2 mini grills outside as well. The bedroom had the charm of a true cabin and the decor made the place feel warm and cozy. I have to say, my favorite part of this property was outside. There were chairs/tables outside to sit and enjoy the patio, as well as fire pits and water equipment. The owners have provided tubes, kayaks, and a paddle board to use at your leisure. It was great to be able to grab a kayak or paddle board and use it on the river whenever we liked. The river is literally right in front of the property which made access ridiculously easy, pro tip: make sure you bring bug spray! During the last day here we were already planning when we could visit again. The owners were awesome, very quick to respond to all our questions and concerns. I would not pass up on the opportunity to book this place!
