Ok stay in a beautiful village
This place was mediocre and I probably would not recommend it for the price.. It was fairly spacious, had a decent view, walkable, good storage for clothes and the beds were comfortable. However, it was poorly maintained (light in bathroom was out with no bulb replacement, window shades broken), dated. dirty in some regards (stained towels, pots with stuck-on-food, cigarette smells, prior guests half eaten sandwich in fridge and socks on floor) and offered zero perks like some rentals. The information given was non-existent on check-in/arrival, and was limited to use of the tv, wifi and the paid washer/dryer.
Arrival was tough as the address led only to an apartment building, there was no way of knowing which apartment was correct. It turns out the owner does not use VRBO frequently (apparently uses another service more regularly), so that likely explains some things. I had to ask a neighbor which house to go to as the owner did not respond to my call. When we showed up at 3:50 for a 4:00pm check-in, the cleaner was there and said we needed to come back at 5:00. This was awfully late for us with two kids.
When we came back, the house smelled awful of cigarettes and the floor was sticky. A couple days later we found three pots with food still in them. This probably explains the bad smell in the kitchen. We had to air out the house for a couple days, but the smell was so bad in the basement room/bathroom we didn’t use the bottom floor at all.
I would not recommend this home for families with young children. The spiral staircase and railing are a hazard as kids could fall right through the wide bars. We used cushions to block this. To the owner’s credit, he was willing to reimburse us for buying a babygate at a local store.
Starting on the second day, the owner was responsive to messages. I do think there is a disconnect between him and his cleaner. On his note in the house and in his messages, he says there is dish soap, dishwasher detergent, but his house cleaner who I think acts as a property manager of sorts, says they don’t supply it. She also didn't help when we mentioned the bulb went out- we used our phone flashlight in the bathroom.
So guests are aware, there was only toilet paper, hand soap, and towels. Hair dryer too. No dishwasher detergent, dish soap, paper towels, shampoo, body wash or conditioner provided.
In the kitchen there was salt and some spices. The kitchen was fairly equipped. No coffee or tea provided.
