Our Stay Was OK
The hotel was OK. The room we stayed in needs to be repaired, cleaned, and repainted. The heating system did not work, and the maintenance person could not fix it unless he powered down heating system for the entire building. The Christmas dinner was good. The New Years Eve dinner food was good; however, the service was horrible. Several times the maid took the keycard from our room when we were at breakfast; we were charging our phones for a long day out and about. We had four adult guests within our room, and quite a number of times we had to ask for an extra bath towel. The front door persons treated us and looked at us suspiciously each and every time we entered through the front door of the establishment. I could go on; however, I believe that you get the idea.

1) The room was good. We were a party of three and thus had to use the pull-out sofa bed, which made things a bit crowded, but if we were a 2-person group instead, it would be more than enough space. 2) The rooftop bar was extremely crowded every time we went there, but the view is sufficiently photo-worthy as to be worth going up to see at least once. It open at 10:30am, though food and drink service opens at 11am, and we recommend going at that time to avoid the crowd. 3) it’s near the quite a lot of good restaurants, stores, and tourist attractions. Everything is within a 20 minute or so walk, which made our entire trip very convenient.

I honestly can’t believe this is rated a 4 star hotel. The staff was unhelpful, and at times even flat out rude. When I first walked into the room, it was a sauna in there. I called the front desk to ask why the AC wasn’t working, and the receptionist informed me that they keep the AC completely off during the winter. And that I should open the window if I wanted cold/fresh air. The temperature in my room ranged from 75-77 the entire time. The window that she told me to open, was a picture window that only cracked open a few inches, letting hardly no cold air in. On top of that, this hotel is located in the busiest street in Madrid. So I made the mistake the first night of trying to sleep with the window open, only to be woken up half an hour in with all the street noise. So it was either sleep with the heavy street noise, or wake up drenched in sweat. Trying to blow dry my hair was a nightmare, as I’d have to stop and take breaks to stand by the window, only to end up sweaty right out the shower. The blow dryer broke during its first use, so I had to wait 20mins for housekeeping to send a new one. The casting/pairing on the tv didn’t work, so I had to watch Netflix on my phone if I wanted to watch anything. The elevators took forever, as it’s a very large building. It also has a rooftop bar which people seem to frequent, so I constantly had the doormen stopping me from entering the building to ask where I was going.

Location is amazing, right on Gran Via. For $300 a night, everything was average. Breakfast buffet was had everything but nothing had any taste - nothing. Room was average, very few amenities. One day, housekeeping forgot to replace the complimentary water and said they could send a bottle for 7 euros - no thanks. Called for extra towels - those didn't arrive either. If I was paying $150 a night, I would understand but not $300 for 2 rooms!
