We stayed in the Junior Suite (King); military discount offered. We went to 4 hotels in Abingdon (all were full); the last one noted they were assisting FEMA due to Helene. We traveled a few miles to the Northeast and found the General Francis Marion. The hotel has a rich history, and it was a nice change from the typical hotels. There is no way to load the trolley with luggage unless you carry up the steps first; this could pose a problem for 1 guest. Nice tub, comfy bed, beautiful wood flooring, bed, and wardrobe. We couldn't get a refund for the trip back because we didn't have 24-hour notice. A crack in our windshield made it dangerous to stay so we wound up driving the entire way from Dover, Delaware to Paris TN (15 hours); it would have been nice to get a raincheck, but this option was not offered. We were not there long enough to have breakfast so I'm not sure what the breakfast bar is like. We had hoped to find out on the trip home. I would stay again and take the time to check out the eclectic and unique shops in Marion, VA. Very cool area. Wish we had more time.

The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. Housekeeping was a bit slow preparing the room and there were some very minor issues (one example, towel left hanging on the door from the previous occupant). The breakfast was more of a grab and go. Overall, I would definitely recommend and stay again for the great room rate and location.

We love historic properties that have been meticulously maintained as you have with the Gen. F.M. Brandon was the desk clerk when we checked in. He was knowledgeable about the hotel’s history and the surrounding area. He was cordial, professional and most helpful.

This is an old hotel nicely renovated right in downtown Marion. There is a little restaurant attached with good food- no alcohol yet but they said the license is coming soon. I didn't notice any noise but it didn't seem very busy. Comfy bed and everything very clean. We enjoyed sitting on a cement balcony overlooking the Main Street. The only negative is a blowing heating unit which can't be controlled in the room- need to ask the front desk to change the heat. Would stay here again.

My only two complaints about your beautiful hotel are, 1. You did not serve any proteins for breakfast (only carbs), so I ate breakfast elsewhere. 2. You did not provide any way to charge my cell phone in your room. Modern day power strips for about $10,00 have chargers built in. Would be a nice addition to your hotel.

The hotel has great architecture and the staff is super friendly. It’s clean overall, but my main issue is that the facilities are pretty outdated. I stayed in a room right by the elevator that’s separated by a wooden wall, and it was really noisy. The air conditioner wasn’t working either; I couldn’t control the temperature from the panel in my room and had to ask the front desk to adjust it. Even after they made changes, the temperature still didn’t budge.

This is a beautiful historic hotel that has been remodeled. It’s a very quaint town of Marion Virginia. Beautiful mountains surrounding it and a couple. Nice little restaurants within walking distance. I definitely recommend a stay here.
