The area
Matlock Bath is a unique village with something for everyone including stunning scenery, beautiful walks and cycle rides, rowing boats, cable cars, canoeing, rock climbing, caves, a theme park, a mine and museum plus a great mix of pubs, take aways, restaurants and cafes.
Matlock Bath is a small spa town in the Peak District, fortunately prohibited in growth by the steeply wooded limestone cliffs forged by the River Derwent. Thermal springs discovered in the late 17th century led to the growth of the village as a health resort. These days the town attracts many visitors but probably most famously to its dramatic cable car ride which spans the hugely picturesque valley nearby our property known as The Heights of Abraham'.
Matlock with it’s antique shops, trendy bars and restaurants along Dale Road is within walking distance or a short train ride.
The cottage could not be better situated to access the treasures of the Peak District with the country houses of Chatsworth, Haddon, Hardwick, Tissington and Bolsover Castle all within a 20 minute drive. Further market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, and Wirksworth are within a short drive. The A6 which runs through the valley provides swift access to the A38 and the motorway networks with a national rail hub in Derby. Matlock Bath train station is less than a 10 minute walk away with hourly services to Derby and Nottingham and beyond.
