A little bit goes a long way, ...or not.
Let me first start by saying that Solana Hotel & Spa looks very inviting from the front. It has a really nice lobby and is located within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and there are busses that take you to St. Paul's Bay, Gozo and other touristy places just steps from the hotel which I liked. All rooms also have a balcony which is nice to sit outside and dry your clothes, enjoy the weather, etc. Nice rooftop. What I did not like was the horrible odor in my room when I first checked in, which I later was told that is it was the wood panel in the room, since it was recently remodeled. It was an easy solution because I just opened the balcony door everyday and eventually I could not smell it. Also housekeeping kept on forgetting to clean my room even though I would leave a sign saying to clean it and would even see them in the hallway and assume that since they saw me leaving, they would clean it. I had to keep complaining to the front desk and they did get them to clean it, but it was evident that housekeeping did a lackluster job and did not clean the floors or anything. Also, the wifi in my room was terrible, I am not sure if it was because I was located on the far end of the floor. The room (2205) looked like they recently converted it into a room so maybe that's also why housekeeping kept on forgetting about it. I did like that there was a gym, but the ventilation was poor as it smelled moldy. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again based on this experience.

We stayed in this hotel during the off-season, and while the location was excellent—close to great restaurants and scenic walking areas—the overall experience was mixed. The suite was small and awkwardly designed, with a poorly placed TV. Cleanliness was an issue, with trash bags left in the hallways, and construction noise disrupted the stay. The breakfast buffet was repetitive and lacked freshness. Service was inconsistent; the lobby staff were friendly, but the bar staff less so. The wellness facilities felt dated, though the massage itself was great thanks to the professional spa team. For the low price, it was acceptable, but we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Excellent Service: Definitely A Resort Style
This was my first time staying on the north part of the island. Excellent access to Gozo and Popeye. The room was spacious and breakfast always had a variety of options. The weather wasn't too great while I was there, but there were indoor pools, sauna, and a (tiny) gym. There were always people in the lobby having a drink and sometimes there was live music. The service was also excellent. Kis (at check-in) was wonderful and explained all of the amenities that that hotel & spa had to offer. If I wanted a relaxing weekend, I would definitely consider staying here again.

Excellent hotel located in Melhelia village. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The buffet was excellent with endless food options and drinks with meals a definite plus. We used the spa facilities and were not disappointed - excellent value for money. Would highly recommend this hotel and it's facilities and look forward to visiting again soon

Friendly and speedy check-in. Clean and comfortable room. Did not use the buffet or restaurant as visiting friends, but plenty of choices for eating both inside hotel and locally. Located in heart of Mellieħa, short walk to bus stops for routes all across the islands.

Nice place to stay close to shops, transport and clean hotel. Breakfast buffet can have long wait for coffee machines and also spent a while waiting for lifts in hotel which were slow. Overall I would visit again.

Great stay in this hotel, the view from the pool at the 7th floor is beautiful and cocktails are a must over there. Bus stop in front of the hotel and guest services are also very good. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Loved the pizza.

Nice enough but definitely more geared towards package holiday guests. Shame the outdoor pools are not heated and hot tubs not working - that was annoying when it is advertised as part of the hotel amenities. Outdoor pools and sauna close at 8.00pm which is annoying. Should be later to accommodate guests post-dinner

Fantastic stay in Malta!
This place was beautiful. We stayed at 2 different hotels in Malta & this was our favorite. The Italian restaurant downstairs is fantastic & the included breakfast was great. Everything in the hotel is very well kept & clean & working order. The pools were beautiful, the showers had hot water & plenty of pressure. Only 2 very minor things I can say could have improved our stay. I'd switch is that the mattress that was very very firm, with one a little softer, but that is just a preference. Also, there is a shuttle from the beach, but it cost more than an Uber. It would be a nice touch if they just included that in the stay.

I had an amazing stay at Solana. The area was perfect for me as I enjoy quiet, peaceful, relaxing vacations (if you’re looking to party stay in St Julian’s). The outdoor pools are amazing, I couldn’t believe how gorgeous it was. My only criticism is that the male staff (middle aged European man) at Prickly Pear was very rude to me for no reason. The first day I was there, I went up to the pool & I saw others being brought food & drinks to their sunbed. When the server was done bringing their items, I asked him how to order; his response was ‘there’s supposed to be a QR code on your umbrella but there’s not.’ And he just walked away. I decided to use my neighbors QR code since my umbrella didn’t have one, and when he brought me my food he gave me attitude about it. The next day when I ordered food (I had a QR code at my sunbed this time) he was weirdly aggressive & rude to me again. I just got strange energy from him, he wasn’t kind and helpful like all of the other staff there. This deterred me from even ordering food while at the pool because I didn’t want to see him. Otherwise I had an extremely pleasant stay, & I would stay there again.
