When I woke the morning on June 25, 2024 at 8 a.m. and tried to have a shower, the water was freezing cold. I don't have a problem waiting for the water to warm up but when you check the water at 10:00 a.m. and it's still cold and you have to check out at 11:00 a.m. I was frustrated. I told the manager when we checked out at 10:30 a.m. that the shower was freezing cold and he went to check on the shower and came back and said to me in my opinion condescendingly that I had to turn the shower handle to H. I didn't appreciate to be spoken to in such a manner. I have enjoyed staying at the Hawthorn but going forward I am not sure if I will stay here again.

The room was nice and clean. The lightbulb in the bathroom was burnt out. The guy at the desk told me it would be changed but never was. Our room key did not work most of the time. I had to go down to the desk about 10 times during the 2 nights we stayed here to let them know it wasn't working. They never did anything for us except run it through their key machine. It would work once then and that's it. Very frustrating and annoying! The day we were checking out and I had to go down to the desk, again, to talk to someone about the key it turned out to be the manager. He said nobody told him about this problem we were having. He finally figured it out that it was the battery in our door that was the problem. He offered us a free room next time we're in the city. He was the only person that tried to figure out what the problem was. Other than that our stay at the hotel was great!

Breakfast food items (powdered eggs) are less than tasty & limited. Need more fruit other than apples. All cereal is sugared,! Staff removes food items before breakfast time is over. A new toaster is needed. Takes several minutes to make toast & usually a line of people waiting to use a 2 slice toaster!!!

What’s with that check in??
Check in was horrible. The person at the front desk took forever to check me in and kept writing all the information from my drivers license, and my credit card too. Usually they’ll make me do the incidentals with my card but they didn’t do that here all she did was ask if she can take it off my card?? I hope I don’t get mysterious charges either. Also, I asked for an extension on my check out and they were going to charge me $25 for an extra hour!!! Wow! I’m never staying here again and neither should you!

Not bad but not great.
We had a 3 night stay in an older but spacious suite with a noisy full frig, a microwave and dishwasher. No thermostat; a fan wall unit to set heat or cool and fan speed. Older tub/shower combo bathroom. Breakfast was ok but had high spots - delicious biscuits once, fresh bacon. Packets of oatmeal, eggs tasted like powdered eggs. Convenient food and sundries market by front desk. Location ok, on strip of hotels. In spite of specifically saying on the door tag that there would be light maid service daily and full service every 5 days, a maid never entered our room. It wasn't bad, but we would try another hotel next time we're in Minot.
