In addition to the exceptional architecture of the THERMAL BATHS, the city includes a number of hotels and villas from the 19th century.

this new water temple dedicated to health, was built by architect Charles Ledru in 1817, at the instigation of the Prefect Ramond and the department.
Do you know why this establishment is so dark?
This is because it was built in andesite stone, magmatic rock, present in massifs of volcanic origin. From the outside, the neo-classical building has 1 austere architecture as it is so simple and refined: on the first 2 levels, 1 colonnade of semicircular arches, surmounted by 3 pediment-gables (characteristic of the Belle Epoque architecture).
Conversely, its interior architecture is rich in colorful decorations dedicated to water (mosaics, paintings) and Roman remains. 1 part of this establishment is classified as a Historic Monument.

With favorable weather, it is even possible to observe the Alpine massif!
Formerly, we called Puy de Sancy, Puy de la Croix because 1 iron cross was at the top. We used to make a pilgrimage there in May to seek good weather.
The parish of Saint-Donat went there on August 6, Saint Sixt's day, quickly deformed in Sancy.
The Puy de Sancy remains, despite its mountain air, 1 real volcano. At the top, no crater,
it's 1 strato-volcano. Very complex system, 1 strato-volcano consists of several volcanoes nested in each other and whose eruption phases are not simultaneous.
Eruptive mouths sprang from lavas of different compositions and aspects, which partly explains the great variety of landscapes.
The Monts Dore volcanic massif, of which the Puy de Sancy is the highest point, began its formation 5 million years ago, and ended around 250,000 years ago.
As shown by studies carried out in the 18th century, the Massif du Sancy was built in several phases of activity alternating with long phases of rest.
There are all types of eruptive activities known in the world, hence a wide variety of rocks and materials. The last ice age, dating back 13,000 years, was shaped by the action of glaciers, shaping the large radiant valleys around the massif: the Chaudefour, Fontaine Salée and Haute Dordogne valleys. The end of this period is marked by 1 new volcanic episode causing the formation of cones and lakes. Among these, Lac Pavin results from 1 eruption dating back only 6,900 years, the most recent in mainland France.
- Easy access by cable car from the foot of Puy de Sancy, after the climb, 1 wooden staircase (864 steps), allows you to reach the summit of the volcano in 20 minutes. There you will find 1 orientation and landscape reading table.
- On foot, from the car park at the foot of Puy de Sancy, count around 3:30 round trip (7km) with 500m drop, 2 trails allow access to the summit.
