Accommodation In Moreton Island\n
Imagine shaking out your beach towel and not having to haggle for a good spot between hundreds of bodies sprawled along the beach for once – what bliss! Then picture yourself diving through the calm blue Moreton Bay waters off a little-known island where there are always more locals than tourists. At the very south of Moreton Bay, a small secluded patch of five top secret islands awaits you, including Russel, Coochiemudlo and Macleay Islands. For more of a resort vibe, head to the north of Moreton Bay to the magnificent dolphin-filled waters of Tangalooma. If you’re really looking to get away from it all, this is definitely the place to do it. Book your Moreton Bay Islands hotel with us today.
Wherever you go here, you will love lazing in the sunny rays along the clean sandy beaches, unpacking a picnic or a hot bundle of fish’n’chips in the picnic areas, and ducking into the corner shop for an ice cream. Days can easily be filled playing on the water in canoes, kayaks and even aqua bikes, which can be hired locally, as well as swimming and simply lazing on the shores. With lovely protected waters, you never have to worry about getting turfed around by waves here. But don’t be fooled into thinking all of these islands are the same!
At Tangalooma, on Moreton Island, you will fall in love with the dolphins. Every day you can hand feed these beautiful creatures in the shallow shores of the bay, before indulging in the local resort life. Take an ATV Quad Bike Tour, a Desert Safari Tour, or a Marine Discovery Cruise – or slip your way down the sand dunes with some awesome sand tobogganing.
Russell Island is the largest island in the south and home to about 3000 people. Creep up on the crabs around the mud flats at low tide for fun, or throw in a line to catch fresh fish for dinner. Even if you fail, there are plenty of local spots to grab a bite, including the RSL and cute cafes. You can even play a game of bowls here! With walking tracks under development, the first section is open at Turtle Swamp so don’t miss it!
Coochiemudlo (or Coochie) sits just off Victoria Point, and is best to explore on foot or by bike. Coochie also has a local bowls and golf club, so your adventures aren’t limited to the water. While you’re here, don’t miss Flinders’ Landing, a stone monument marking where Matthew Flinders landed in 1799, 300m east of the jetty at Norfolk Beach.
Macleay Island offers two-for-one with the small Perulpa Island next door. They’re connected by a causeway so it’s easy to explore. Macleay Island is also home to a great little Arts Complex, with a studio, gallery and pottery shed. The boat club and bowls club will help you absorb the island vibe without getting wet.
The Moreton Bay Islands have everything you could want in an island holiday and more! And it’s just 30km from the Brisbane city centre! Book your Moreton Bay Island accommodation with us today and dig out your flippers and goggles.
