Accommodation In Mukdahan
Mukdahan is known as the pearl on the banks of the Mekong River. A laid-back little town offering a relaxed atmosphere, a lively nightlife, historic little temples and colourful markets, it’sdefinitely worth a visit. The town is especially famous for its delicious local food, so find a great deal on a Mukdahan hotel and come see what this great little town has to offer!
For an insight into the local history, visit Ho Kaeo Mukdahan. It's a 65 metre tower built in celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Rama IX's ascension to the throne. The lower floors exhibit history and art from the region, as well as the culture and way of life of the local indigenous tribes. From the top you can enjoy the panoramic views out to the Mekhong River from an observation deck, and soak in the beauty of this remote region in Thailand.
Shopping is best done at the Indochina Market, which is quite famous in the local area. Enjoy walking along the riverfront and browsing the stalls, and taste cheap food, a wide range of clothing and trinkets from China and Vietnam, as well as the silk and cotton fabrics made in Isan (North Eastern Thailand). During the dry season the river drops so low that sandy beaches form along the banks, and are a great spot for kids to play.
Love nature? You can't miss Mukdahan National Park. Follow the walking track up Pha Thoep Mountain and you can visit the Fa Mu Daeng Cave. It has prehistoric drawings and paintings that are believed to be over 5000 years old. If you prefer scenic views you need to visit Phu Mu Forest Park, which has three vantage points at different levels of the mountain where you can see the brilliant scenery out across the region.
An interesting landmark in Mukdahan is Wat Ban Song Khon, which is a Catholic church just outside of town. It's the largest and most beautiful Catholic church in Southeast Asia, and was constructed to honour the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect their religion. History lovers need to see Wat Si Mongkhon Tai, because it's home to an ancient Buddha image, which is much older than the city itself and was actually unearthed during Mukdahan's construction.
For a look into proper local life in Thailand you can't pass up the opportunity to see Mukdahan. Great temples and history combine with spectacular nature and delicious food to make your holiday complete. Sitting only 245 km east of Khon Kaen, it's easy to get in. Simply book a flight to Thailand and you can come enjoy it all to yourself. What are you waiting for! Don't forget your Mukdahan accommodation - peaceful tranquillity is waiting for you.
