Welcome to Whippoorwill Woods!
We are blessed to have you come and enjoy this gracious part of creation. Nature can ‘teach you the unforced rhythms of grace’ as our welcome sign states. Whippoorwill Woods is 3.8 miles North of Nashville.
Upon entering Whippoorwill Lane a majestic view of Brown County Greets you. The woods on the lane are intimate and dense so that you might wonder where the cabin is but at the top of the drive, the world opens up to reveal a secluded cabin and one of the two reported highest views of Brown County. The cantilevered deck looks out onto vast ridges of trees and a 2/3 acre pond.
On a clear day you can see the tower at the south entrance of the Brown County State Park which is about five miles as the crow flies. In the fall, as you take a relaxing dip in the hot tub, you have one of the best private vistas to be enjoyed in this part of the world. A well-marked mile-long trail past the tree house, around the blue gill stocked pond and down to the confluence of the streams connects on the top of the west side of the property to the Yellowwood trail system which then leads back up to the path in the front of the cabin.
The cabin was built in 1979 by George Woods. Its design is simple and beautiful, artistically using poplar, maple, hickory, oak and cedar wood. The spiral stairway was the first addition to the cabin after we bought it in 1992 as we had young children at the time.
On the first floor the windows are large which brings the woods and vistas into the living space. The windows on the second floor are awash in summer green and fall yellow. The living space is cozy with a woodstove and comfortable seating.
The kitchen is simple yet very convenient. Dining and sleeping arrangements allow room for 4 guests. This includes a double foldout couch on the first floor plus a double bed and two beds on the second floor loft in two separate sleeping areas. The second floor is an open concept of sleeping areas (see photos) with an A-frame roof and railing that overlooks the living space.
Whippoorwill Woods is a cabin and woods that have been enjoyed by over several hundred people in the years that have owned it. This gracious place is perfect for a variety of occasions including; intimate anniversaries, fall getaways, Seder meals, work, school, and simple, beautiful personal retreats. Blessings and welcome to all.
This cabin has usable water supplied by the lake well. The water is safe, tested and filtered, but, it is not "city water". You might want to bring some drinking water with you if you do not like the taste of well water.
