Only issue was the elevators were out at one point and I had to walk up to 4th floor. I have Multiple Sclerosis, so walking stairs is not easy for me.

We loved staying at The Leo House. The staff were excellent, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is no frills, but does provide a varied included breakfast, workspace, WiFi in the rooms and has laundry room. Really well situated too.

Although the rates have increased hugely over the last time I stayed there 9 years ago, they are supposedly within a reasonable margin as far as Manhattan is concerned. I like the proximity to the subway and the easy access to restaurants and cafes. The television options are very limited, but the free buffet breakfast is certainly a huge plus. Why aren't visitors allowed access to a guest's room if the front desk can have security information?

If you can get past the old condition of the building, it’s actually an excellent place in NYC. Don’t expect upgrades nor glitz . It’s devoid of decorations but so safe and clean.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Especially when you’re trying to figure out how to get around New York. It was a bit weird having to always hand a room key in whenever we laughed, but after the first day, it wasn’t a big deal. Just made us a little nervous if we left things in the room that were valuable. Rooms are small, but that is to be expected and the bathroom only fits one person in it at a time, but we are very lucky to have our own shower and sink. Rooms were clean and it was nice that we can control the air conditioner. Breakfast was great , except for two days that only had vanilla yogurt, not flavoured at all. But that is understandable. Only thing that would be nice would be to not have the ice machine in a room that is difficult to get to unless you know where it is. It would be nice to have one on each floor , or at least in the open area

My first thoughts on entering the hotel were not great. It looks very drab. Upon entering our room my view did not change. Decor was terrible, scruffy and in dire need of updating, however it was clean. I was unaware when booking that this was a catholic not for profit hotel as this was not on the property listing. My son's room was in much better condition and makes me wonder if there is a program of updating the rooms. The dining area was lovely - lots of original features, breakfast was really good and lots of choice and really well stocked. All staff were fabulous - really friendly and helpful. Once I got over my initial impressions I actually really enjoyed staying here. The shared showers were not a problem - there are not many rooms per floor and 2 showers and we never had to wait to use one. The rooms were also very quiet. There is also a lovely little courtyard. The area is great, good transport links within a few minutes walk, or if you're happy to stroll for 15-20 mins within easy reach of lots of sights making the location perfect. It really offers value for money. If you want a glitzy hotel then this most definitely not the place for you. But if you want a budget friendly hotel in a great location and are happy to ignore the decor then this is the place for you. I would stay here again. Oh I have read previous reviews stating this is a place housing immigrants??? This is rubbish - everyone staying here were normal tourists from all over.
