Perfect 3 bedroom home for a relaxing break by the sea with friends/family/pets

An attractive and comfortable victorian cottage, once occupied by the local coastguard, the house retains period features alongside modern facilities. It is situated in a perfect position to explore the beautiful Norfolk coast and countryside.

Off road parking is provided at the front of the cottage next to the garden fence. The cottage is accessed through a gate along a path through the sunny garden with flower boarders and a picnic bench. The path goes along the side of the house to a further enclosed garden and patio with seating and BBQ at the rear. Beyond the rear garden wall is a field and track (Watch Lane) leading to a lovely sandy beach and sea, just a short distance to carry your bucket and spade. The beach is both dog and child friendly but if you prefer to sit away from our furry friends there is also a dog free beach.

Entry to the cottage is at the back via a side gate. Security lighting is provided at front, back and side. Access to the cottage is via the key safe next to the door. After unlocking the door you will step into a hall and find the well equipped fitted kitchen which overlooks the rear garden. The smallest room, the WC is opposite with fitted basin and toilet.

Further down the hall past the coat hooks is the lounge/diner with an extending pine dining table and chairs seating up to 6. A light and sunny room with 2 large sash windows overlooking the front garden.

Two large leather sofas and a footstool provide comfortable seating in front of the beautiful Victorian cast iron and tiled fireplace (lovely for open fires in the winter). there's a Smart TV, free Wifi, a few books and guides and a selection of board games, cards etc for your entertainment.

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, one double and one with adult size bunk beds overlooking the front garden and the rear bedroom with a small double bed overlooking the rear garden, field and a glimpse of the sea beyond. Off the landing is the small bathroom with a bath with shower over and a basin.

Great beach location
The property is perfectly located for spending time on a wonderful sandy beach. In the evening, when the tide is in, you can hear the sea while sitting in the back garden. The kitchen is well equipped (we cooked dinner every evening and breakfast half the mornings). The cottage is being well maintained with some items clearly fairly new. The cottage is small, which for two of us with our dog was OK. However, we used the limited storage in all three bedrooms (we were there for two weeks and we had clothes for walking in all weathers). The long distance coastal path is just a few minutes walk from the cottage. Public transport is very limited (around four buses a day in each direction). Our one disappointment was the lack of local information. We stay in cottages regularly and are used to finding a folder with such info. It would have been helpful to know where you stand to hail the bus (there is no bus stop sign), where the local shops are and what they stock, which local eating places are recommended and where are great places to travel out to with your dog.

Enjoyable week
We have just returned from a week in Bacton. Weather has been good and the cottage is only a 5 minute walk from the most gorgeous dog friendly beach. The cottage was pleasant with a lovely secure and front and rear garden. Front garden caught the sun most of the day, and had a nice table and benches. Back garden contained 2 sun-loungers but was unable to use them as they looked quite dirty and had dog hairs on them. Lounge area in cottage was relatively comfortable although the dining table and chairs could do with replacing as quite dated. Kitchen was decent but appeared a bit grubby in places especially microwave door and knobs, fridge door and radio. Bedrooms were a tight squeeze with mishmash furniture and not enough room to put clothes. Only one toilet which was downstairs was a bit of a pain although we did know this before booking and wasn’t keen on the sink being within the toilet when there was enough room to fit a stand alone sink. Bathroom upstairs was very dated and sink far too small to wash, both bathroom and toilet could do with a total refurb. Although we did enjoy our week, would not return to this cottage.

Perfect Easter break
We needed a relaxing family break and luckily found this gem of a cottage. We visited Norfolk last year loved it and weren't disappointed this time. The house is just a stone's throw from Walcott Beach and was perfect for our family of four. It was clean and tidy on arrival with everything we needed. As others have mentioned, the toilet and bathroom are compact, but it didn't bother us and we soon got used to them. The owner, Diana, was quick to answer my silly questions and was very friendly. The beds all had good mattresses and we all slept well, which is sometimes difficult in a strange house. We only stayed five nights but could have stayed longer. The area is beautiful with long sandy beaches, some of them home to hundreds of seals, lots of interesting walks and all amenities nearby. We recommend the local Kingfisher chippy - excellent crisp batter and delicious chips. Check times though as it was closed when we first tried to eat there. I can't recommend Coastguard Cottage enough and feel lucky we managed to find it.

Kitchen, living room and bedrooms were excellent, however the main entrance door was very difficult to lock/unlock, the toilet is squeezed under the stairs and very difficult to manoeuvre in and the stairs are very steep.

Perfect coastal cottage
Our stay was exactly what we wanted - lots of walks both beach and woods, 4 mins walk to dog friendly beach for early morning and evening dog walks, exceedingly gorgeous cake shop 1min away, and close enough to other towns ( Cromer, Norwich, Sheringham, Caister) for trips out. A perfect relaxed week, would definitely return.

Don’t expect modern but do expect cosy. The only criticism is no dishwasher, I’m on holiday don’t want to spend my time washing pots. Short walk to lovely beach, perfect for dogs.

Cosy, clean, great real fire with logs, modern kitchen, comfy beds and good fenced, grassed area for our dogs. Very long, clean beaches and you need to visit North Walsham 10 miles away as well as Cromer. Lovely, large Norwich (if you need a great shopping experience).

Lovely cottage in a great location for exploring Northern Norfolk
We enjoyed our time here. The hosts were easy to contact and let us check in early which was a nice perk. The cottage is well equipped and we loved the open fire. The only thing that may put some guests off is the lack of upstairs toilet and also the louvre bath/shower room door upstairs which could do with replacing with a solid sliding door for privacy. All in all though, a fair price for a comfortable stay and a great location for exploring the Northern Norfolk coastline. Thank you

Lovely quirky cottage!
We liked the cottage which was clean and inviting. Communication about how to find the property and gain entrance was great, although the entrance door wasn't the easiest open and close (due to the style and age of the property). Having read the description and other people's reviews, we were aware the bathroom and toilet were on separate floors but perhaps weren't quite prepared for how small they were. The host has done well to make best use of the space but it certainly wouldn't suit everyone. And the louvre door across the bathroom definitely creates some privacy issues but we worked around it! Some suggestions that could make a lovely cottage even better would be some welcome information such as how to work the heating, WiFi password (which we did find on the router), local cafes and restaurants etc, and some bigger mugs! Generally a lovely stay and I would recommend the place to others looking for a quiet stay near the beach.

Last minute mini break
The property had many pluses: the location to the beach, the cleanliness and super comfy beds being second to none. The down side was that we (both families travelling separately) found the property hard to find: we would have preferred written instructions rather than a map. When we arrived at the property the heating was not on and we all took time to warm up especially our 86 year old mum and we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to have an open fire. The back door was very difficult to open as the latch is bent and we felt that an information book regarding recycling, for example, would have been helpful. We know we could have contacted the owner regarding these issues, but a simple hand book would have easily ironed out any questions. A lovely stay: just adding some pointers for improvement!

Loved this cosy and sympathetically restored old cottage. The hosts were superb and even offered to put up a decorated Christmas tree as we were staying over the festive period. The cottage is well placed to visit both North and south of the coast line. Inland is again at your door step. Lowestoft is a must with a fine small maritime museum. Also the transport museum is excellent. We also discovered the North Walsham and Dilem canal under restoration. Great area.
