“The Almost” A dog friendly, beach getaway

“The Almost” is a bright and comfy house with every amenity from the kitchen to the yard. Relax and enjoy the beach, just a six minute walk. Then relax on the screened porch for dinner. The backyard is fully fenced to keep the dogs safe. Everything is here from the grill to the towels. Bring your toothbrush, shampoo, and come enjoy.

There are beach chairs, beach tent, fishing gear, boogie boards, coolers and many other items for your use in the shed. There is a private outdoor shower to get the sand off. There are usually two to five bikes in the shed. There are games, cards, guitar, and TV's in all the bedrooms and living room. All televisions have access to regular channels and streaming services. There is a wire dog kennel and baby gate for your use. There is a propane grill and charcoal grill.

Everything, and I mean everything, is a short walk away in this quiet neighborhood. There are restaurants, bars, grocery store, ice cream, liquor store, fishing pier, boat ramp, and of course THE BEACH.

There is no cleaning, pet, or linen fee. We only ask that barking outside is kept down when the pooches are outside.

So peaceful..."The Almost"
This property left nothing to be desired It is a perfect home in a perfect location. The whole house was perfectly clean and very well stocked. The house is located within walking distance to everything. My little dog loved the fully fenced in back yard.

Wonderful Getaway
We came down to get out of Ohio for a few days and we picked the best little retreat on Oak Island!!! The host was super helpful and the house was perfect for all of us. Perfect for the pups and the patio was awesome for doing puzzles every night. Located in the middle of the island, we could get to everything we wanted to do! Not to mention, our host had every item needed for a fun filled stay - beach chairs, games, golf clubs, etc. Can’t wait to come back next year!!!

Great stay and baby-friendly!
We had a wonderful time and it was a perfect house with an 8 month old!! Very baby-friendly and super quick and easy to make the living area a safe space. Quick walk or drive to the beach, great restaurants, wonderful neighborhood for stroller walks and tons of spots (including OKI Scoop Shop which has the most amazing donuts we’ve ever had) in walking distance. Kitchen is well stocked, beds are super comfy, the fenced in yard is great for dogs, and having laundry is a huge plus! Highly recommend!

Perfect spot
This house truly has everything you need for a relaxing beach trip. It was very clean and comfortable and the fenced yard made traveling with our dogs incredibly easy. This is now our favorite place on Oak Island and we plan to return ASAP!

No detail left out in this home. Easy self check-in process (the key box was a little clumsy to open but we got it). Quiet neighborhood. About three blocks of walking to the beach. The beds were made, towels hung, hand soaps ready to use, toilet paper be paper towels stocked. Nice kitchen appliances and a great selection of dishes and utensils. Light switches labeled. Comfy mattress with soft sheets. The outdoor shower and hose were very helpful. Private feel to the yard even with close neighbors. A nice screened porch to enjoy the weather without the mosquitoes. Lovely stay overall and can’t wait to return!

This house was in a great location. The host was very responsive. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need to cook with. Paper products,, shampoo, laundry detergent, soap all provided. Many spices also supplied. The house smelled so clean when we arrived! I would highly recommend staying here.

Great Place and Value
The property was great for the trip to Oak Island. It was me, my 2 kids, my parents and our dog. The fenced in yard, outdoor shower, and screened porch were fantastic. The UNO and deck of cards were great and having all the beach items was very helpful. I don’t think Incould find a better place for the cost.

Lovely home and great location if you love the beach but not the crowd of houses and people right on top of each other this is the one for you. Fenced in back yard gave us peace of mind for kids to play and pets to run without them being near a road. Check in and out was easy peasy. We 10/10 would recommend and rent again.

We had a fantastic week staying at “The Almost”. It was in a great location. Very close to all the things we love on Oak Island. The house was just the right size for our whole family. Had everything you could possibly need. Even had a shed full of great beach equipment. We will definitely be back!!

Amazing stay
The Almost was completely stocked with everything you need to spend time at the beach, from chairs and sand toys to a fully stocked kitchen, there wasn’t a single thing we needed that wasn’t there. We’ve gone to beach places in the past that couldn’t keep the sand out, it just gets everywhere, but there wasn’t any when we got there. Such a clean place and close enough to the beach to be a couple minute drive. Would definitely stay again. The outdoor shower was a must with 3 kids and a dog after the beach.

Better than advertised.
The home was immaculate with everything you could need for cooking(except I couldn’t find a frying pan but I made due) lots of books, games, movies and even a guitar. The home was nicer than the pictures. Laid back neighborhood. Our friends stayed near us and had a golf cart which was nice to get to the beach but it is walkable. Very near the Publix, coffeehouses and restaurants.

Hated to leave. We had no extra guests--they broke up! Our daughter and family visited us from their place on the island. Would have stayed another week. So comfortable, well-stocked and pet friendly. Sorry I messed up my text. We left at 9, not 3.

Just kidding. The Almost was the most! Can’t believe how well stocked! He wasn’t kidding when he said just bring your toothbrush! The weather was amazing and the beach pristine. I enjoyed meeting lots of dogs! Awesome place…would highly recommend! Oh, and we found the best dog sitter … I will share her info with our host!

Great property
It has everything you'd ever need for a stay at the beach. Multiple grills, a shed full of beach gear, a fully stocked kitchen. They even have a ton of consumables for you to use like sunscreen, soaps, etc. It's a 12 minute walk to the beach, but that's nothing considering it would probably take like 2 hours to find a parking spot near the beach.

I have stayed in several VRBO over the course of years, however I found this rental to be above the call of duty as far as what was offered. We really enjoyed our stay we would definitely rent this unit again can’t say enough positive things about it and the host.

Nice hideaway close to everything in Oak Island
I stayed here with my mom and my dog. It's a nice, roomy location tucked away behind some trees - close to the beach, but also with a lot of privacy for downtime in the morning and evening. It had everything required for humans and canines!

Great Oak Island getaway!
We visit Southport just about every year and wanted to stay at Oak Island for once. We certainly were not disappointed. The house is very well appointed which was important for us as we did fly in and packed lightly. It was even nicer in person. Although we did not cook as much as we thought there was certainly everything you could think of in the kitchen. The house was immaculately clean! Their welcome book had a lot of great tips on restaurants and where to go. We appreciated the access to the bikes, and enjoyed taking the bikes out around the island. Although we didn’t use them, there were also beach chairs, boogie boards, sand toys, fishing poles, and everything you could need for a beach excursion. We really enjoyed the beachfront park and even hopped in on some Open play Pickleball - this was very close to the house . The host was very responsive as well! We would love to bring our family and our dog back to enjoy this great home. We appreciate the hosts of “The Almost” sharing their home. Thank you.
