Uppingham is the smaller of the two main towns of Rutland and is welcoming, charming and full of history. Take the heritage trail around the town or just enjoy the honey-coloured buildings that line the streets. The town is well known for its art and antiques with many galleries and dealers around every corner including other speciality shops and traditional retailers, many of whom are still family owned and run. You’ll always find somewhere to enjoy a meal or light snack with a range of traditional country inns, stylish restaurants and cosy English tea rooms within easy walking distance.
Don’t forget to visit the market just around the corner which takes place every Friday. The larger town of Oakham and equally as enchanting is just over 6 miles away where you can discover a larger range of local amenities including high street and independent shops, cafés, tearooms, restaurants and a train station. The town also boasts a small castle and museum and is packed full of heritage. No visit to Rutland is complete with time spent at the stunning Rutland Water some parts of which can be reached in just over 4 or 5 miles. It boasts 4200 acres of open countryside and nature reserves where you can enjoy stunning walks, bird watching at the local nature reserve, fishing, rock climbing, high ropes, golf, crazy golf, boat trips, and water sports.
