Orcas Island, Aurora House #295

*** This home is people friendly, and not pet friendly. ***

Aurora House provides guests with the perfect blend of coziness and spaciousness - an indoor and outdoor retreat set on a waterfront bluff with sprawling views off Orcas Island’s coveted north shore. Sit by the fire in the sizeable living room, with vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the excitement of weather, boats, birds, marine mammals, and outer-island escapes. Or spend your days down the relaxing trail right next door where a private beach accessible only to neighborhood residents awaits – this beach is known by the lucky few to be one of the most beautiful and private beaches on the island.

Back at the house, the waterfront hot tub, open kitchen and expansive deck ensure a relaxing getaway in every way possible. Inside, in addition to the first floor living room, this home provides two downstairs bedrooms, one with outside direct deck access and a comfortable queen size bed. The other room has a bunk bed arrangement with a full bed on the bottom and twin on top. These bedrooms share a downstairs bathroom that also serves as the guest bathroom.

A cozy and well-lit family room at the back of the house provides the perfect den for watching movies, soaking up the sun under the solarium-style windows, and getting away from it all with your favorite book. The laundry room is conveniently tucked away in a closet on the first floor near the kitchen.

Speaking of the kitchen, this easy-to-use space has all the amenities to entertain and cook for a large family gathering. Serve your family and friends at the kitchen bar, dining table, or the lounging deck with plentiful furniture that is just steps away from the cooking area.

Upstairs is the master bedroom loft with a queen size bed, master bathroom and more views of neighboring islands and even Canada. The warm, woody feeling throughout this house, coupled with the peace of the surrounding forest and sea, provide ultimate tranquility. Aurora House provides excellent privacy from neighbors and such a gracious environment to enjoy wonderful Orcas Island.

get away
Beautiful views, everything you need for your stay (minus food, of course) I enjoyed my get away and relaxed in the hot tub overlooking the ocean, didn't enjoy the drive up there a bit narrow, but it is an island. Saw an Eagle up close, and deer in the yard. I was in a rush to make the ferry so I didn't pack enough food and had to make a run to local market, it was a bit pricey, so don't do what I did.

Orcas island retreat
My friends and I LOVED staying at this property. The views of the sound were absolutely incredible. Even on the stormy days - we spied a few rainbows and enjoyed hot tubing in the rain. The location was nice for us. We enjoyed that it was a bit more remote and secluded. It took about 15-30 minutes to get to other parts of the island for activities but that was not a problem for us. The house was stocked with everything we needed. The private path down to the beach is a must! The directions for finding it are a bit confusing, basically just continue down the road the house is on and you'll run into the path. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone considering it!

Wonderful stay!
Overall, a great, relaxing stay. The property was just as described. Check in and check out was very easy, and the home was clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed visits to the nearby beach, soaks in the hot tub, and cooking in the fairly well-equipped kitchen. There was a 3-year old buck who visited the yard fearlessly each day. The only minor criticisms were that the coffee maker is very slow to brew (bring a press or do your own pour-over with a filter basket), and at times there was a faint sulfur smell in the loft bathroom (possibly a septic venting / u-trap design issue) but nothing the bathroom extractor fan didn’t clear up. Overall, we were exceedingly happy with our stay!

Lovely place with amazing views
Beautifully clean, everything worked great, truly awe inspiring views. So peaceful and lovely. House is much more spacious than it appears in the pictures. There were 5 of us but could have easily accommodated more. We really enjoyed the outdoor deck and hot tub every evening, and a buck with full antlers ambled down the driveway to say hello two nights in a row. Neighborhood beach was very private, with heaps of smooth gray small rocks/pebbles. Trail to the beach was an engineering feat since the drop-off is really steep. You drive on a gravel road for a ways to get there, so select your vehicle accordingly. I'm a nervous driver so I was glad we happened to have rented a mini SUV.

Very nice
Wonderful spot in a remote location with big windows and deck overlooking the sound. Plenty of open space for lounging (and crawling for our 1-year-old). Well-appointed kitchen. You have to negotiate a steep narrow trail to get to the very cool private beach from which you can see Mount Baker and the Vancouver skyline. Some in our party saw otters and a minke whale. The only drawback to this place was that one bedroom has bunk beds and another is a open loft (great views but less privacy) but the other features more than made up for it.

Beautiful, quiet spot with nearby water access
We’re a group of college friends who started traveling to the SJI’s in 2020 and come back every year. This house was perfect for a small group of ladies looking to cook together and explore the island and waterfront during the day. The adorable little park and water access down the road was perfect for launching our paddle boards and sipping coffee in the mornings. Only knock was that the dishwasher was out of order, which made cooking and cleaning all meals for 8 people a bit of a chore. Other than that, we loved this spot!!

Raccoon Point
Location is beautiful for this property with good access to the shore line. House is spacious. We missed having an operational dishwasher and screen door, and would have preferred a cleaner hot tub. Lots of animal sightings: eagles, deer, raccoons, porpoise.

Aurora House
The Aurora House was a great site for a family vacation. Excellent views, nearby, easily accessed beach, convenient to Eastsound but also very private. The hot tub got a good workout. However: the dishwasher did not work. Of the three coffee makers, two took about 30 minutes to brew coffee. The dryer took four runs and nearly four hours to dry a set of towels. The telescope supposedly had three levels of magnification but was stuck on one. One of the beds had a fitted sheet that was too big and made sleeping difficult for the couple in it.

The Perfect Retreat
This home was perfect for our family of 5. The view is amazing and the beach right down the way was a nice access point. It had everything we needed and was an easy process for checking in and not a long list of check-out to-dos. The driving instructions from the hosts were great because it is a little tricky the first time you drive to the property. Everything in the house was easy to use and easy to find...had everything you need for comfort. There is a hairdryer and beach/hot tub towels available (those were 2 items I was unsure about from the listing and can confirm). Highly recommend to anyone headed to Orcas.

Beautiful view
We were a group of 4 friends celebrating a 60th Birthday. A very comfortable house. The view is amazing. We really enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. The house needs to have a deep cleaning. I would not drive to the house the first night when it is dark and/or raining. Directions were good, but it is a bit of a drive on a dirt/gravel road at the end. Overall, we have a wonderful time together.

Great views and private beach
What makes this house worth the price is most definitely the views and the private beach. Our experience with the house itself was only ok. When we arrived the hot tub was absolutely filthy and two of the 3 tvs were broken. They couldn’t get a worker to the house until the next day for the hot tub and then it had to be emptied so basically we couldn’t use it for the first two days of our stay- and it was one of the main reasons we booked the house. The beach was awesome and the main reason we enjoyed our stay so much- our kids loved it and so did we. The house in general needs some tlc. While it can be considered sort of a “rustic” place, it lacked any sort of charm at all. Feels like the owner does the bare minimum to keep it up for a rental. While we did enjoy our stay and loved orcas, we likely wouldn’t stay at this house again.

Awesome location needs TLC
The main thing that drew us to this property was the view, the location and the hot tub. The hot tub was clean and spectacular views. The view from inside would have also been great but the windows were filthy. Loved the layout of the house and the wood stove in the living room. The kitchen was in need of organization of the drawers and cupboards as things were all over the place . Also the pots and pans and silverware were very old and in need of updating. Many of the plates were chipped and cracked while others were stained and dirty.

Disconnect and relax
We had a great 3 night stay staring out at the water from one of the many couches or hot tub. We recommend following the directions provided as google will not get you there. The only thing I would have loved to be different were the beds. A king size would be great, but the beds were very firm and I would have appreciated a little more comfort to match the rest of the spectacular property. Next time I’m in Orcas, I’ll look up this house again.

Great, quiet location in a comfortable home
If you like to be away from crowds and noise and immersed in nature, this is an excellent choice! The view of the sea and surrounding areas is terrific, there is a private neighborhood path to the beach with benches at lovely viewing spots. This property was listed by Northwest Escapes - and it was such a good experience with them. There were starter kits of coffee and other basics, soap, shampoo etc in the bathrooms, and someone came to pick up garbage and clean the hot tub periodically. We did not even have to launder the linens and towels before leaving - we felt pampered! I will definitely rent this house again.

Our group of 6 (2 kids, 2 parents, 2 grandparents) had a wonderful time at this beautiful property. The location is fantastic-quiet and private, but only 15 minutes into Eastsound. The house itself was in great shape and offered plenty of room for our group.
