Funky Little Shack

Enjoy a memorable visit when you stay in this unique place. This is a space to get away from it all and enjoy nature.
NO TV/ NO WIFI There is free WIFI in town at the local elementary school. we have highway 101 frontage and that the noise bothers some people. The noisy road is most constant during the high season from traffic and mostly the big logging trucks. Most people say it’s worth being so close to the park and hiking trails. We have ear plugs provided(in top desk drawer)- if needed. ******We advise getting groceries before you check in if your planning to cook as more food selection is at least 1/2 hour South and 1hour North. However also only tiny fridge available here.

******Sometimes ants can be a problem.
Please clean up after cooking/fixing food and keep food scraps in the fridge in bags provided in the kitchen drawer.
We prefer not to use poison traps but if needed we have Terro ant traps upon request.******
Rural area, close to State and National Parks.
Minutes from Pacific Ocean.
Across the highway from where Redwood Creek and Prairie Creek meet. Good ocean and river fishing access just near by.

Some of my favorites within 10min driving distance are: Fern Canyon, Prairie Creek State Park, Redwood Creek, and all the ocean/lagoon accesses.

First and foremost, the small structure where we stayed was charming...almost fairytale. We got in late at night and struggled to find it though the directions given us were very clear. Upon entering, we thought we were so lucky. And we were. Even though it is on US 101 in Orick, it was quiet enough and we had internet access while we were in the house which wasn't the case else where. But...and this is a very big but....we had no hot water to speak of. The shower would start out very warm and within less than a minute, it was cold...not lukewarm but cold. The same with the sink. I couldn't find a hot water heater in the house. This was a major disappointment. WE could heat water from a small kettle and was our hands and face but the shower was no use. Washing out dishes by kettle was a bit like camping. Had there been hot water, this place would have been five stars without a doubt. I would like to share this review with a wider audience, if possible.

Perfect little cabin
Perectly located for the national parks amd hiking trails. 2 minutes from the ocean/beach. The host was extremely friendly helped with items to make my stay better. This was a much needed mental health retreat. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay

very basic accommodations
the funky shack is bare bones! if you plan on eating in, simple meals work best. ask the host for instructions on using hot water in the tub/shower prior to bathing. the bed is a bit challenging to get into if youre short. but, very comfy once youre in! and the location cant be beat!

Gateway to Redwood National Park
This was an ideal location to visit Redwood NP. The Funky Little Shack was well furnished and met our needs for our two night stay. The hot water on demand worked great, and the bed was very comfortable! Because it is so close to the highway, I was a little concerned about where my car was parked, and traffic noise was bothersome at times. The proximity to the park, however, made it totally worthwhile.

Charming cabin
The cabin was well-maintained, and equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Its location was perfect, just a short drive from the park's main attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring the stunning redwoods and enjoying outdoor activities. This is a very basic little place suitable for 1 or 2 people. The freeway noise is not bothersome to us. I wish I would have known there are no restaurants or groceries in Orick itself. Knowing that, I could have used a microwave. Good addition for next time.

Simple place, and very well equipped with all the necessities needed for your stay. Location is great a quick drive to most of Redwoods state parks. Sadly communication with the host was very poor. Other than that all went great
