Beware of this Listing, Misleading and Worse
I have happily and successfully rented beautiful stays in the past 10 years with vrbo and other similar enterprises. While on average some meet the descriptions of the listings, some exceed and some may fall below, generally there is not a great disparity in what one expects to find. That is, if the owner or manager is honest. Which I have found is mostly the case. However, in the case of this listing, my family and I were victims of great dishonesty and misrepresentation of the stated features of the listing. I would go as far as saying at was easily the worst experience of any rental I have ever booked. The short breakdown of problems are as follows: The accommodation description is highly deceptive. Rather than being steps from the ocean, it is at least a kilometer from the ocean. Rather than being 4 bedrooms, it was 3 plus a cot in a living room. Rather than having access to pools at a nearby hotel, there was no such amenity permitted by the hotel property management. Rather than having Wifi, there was 0 connectivity. None of the written features were accessible to us. I explained through messages that I would be bringing an elderly person(my mother), an infant, my wife and other children. Because of those facts, it was vital to me that we could easily access water in nearby facilities. It was mid July in south Italy which I knew would be high heat. I was worried about any difficulties to overcome. I was assured and even given descriptions like "30 steps to the beach" and "full access to 2 pools". Neither of which was true. In fact, and this was the worst aspect, what I later learned AFTER I had traveled from California all the way to this remote area with family, that the manager, in fact, switched my booked location for some other, lesser, further place. It was a "bait and switch" scam. We were stuck in brutal heat, without access to water, without enough beds and with no cell phone network of any sort to communicate. We could not last there for more than a couple days before I had to move at great expense to the only hotel miles away that could take us last minute. There is even more to this story which includes a moment of being confronted by a stranger at the door which scared my kids. In any case, it was a nightmare that I would wish on no one. So be warned. I will conclude that I am awaiting a decision now by VRBO to help me get refunded for being put in this situation by this owner/manager. I will take my case to social media soon.
