Sandwich is situated in the heart of the Eden Valley, with the property being located on the edge of the village green, which has a play area with football nets. The living and dining area has an open coal fire, as well as a Smart TV with a basic Sky package to enjoy, with views over the village green. The kitchen is equipped with all you may need during your stay, including a toaster, kettle, washing machine and highchair. There is also a pantry and an under-stairs storage area.
Upstairs, you’ll be greeted by a double bedroom, as well as a twin and a single bedroom, with room for a travel cot, the upstairs bathroom consists of a shower over the bath giving the option of a quick rinse or relaxing soak, as well as wash basin and toilet. There is free private parking for two cars at the front of the cottage, and to the back, there is an enclosed garden area which can be accessed down the side of the property, you will find a lawn with a patio area, a large lockable shed, ideal for storing bikes.
A 2-minute walk will take you to the newly refurbished Kings Arms, serving Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Morning Coffee and Afternoon Tea using locally sourced food where possible, the pub is dog friendly and has a games room with seating outside.
The tranquil village of Temple Sowerby is midway between Penrith and Appleby and within easy reach of the M6 and A66. Local attractions include Acorn Bank (National Trust property), Lowther Castle, Rheged Visitor Centre, Brougham Castle and Dalemain Historic House. Both Penrith and Appleby have a golf course, and Appleby Anglers can provide excellent fishing for Brown Trout. Penrith also has supermarkets which offer an online/home delivery service for groceries.
The nearest lake is Ullswater which is approximately 12 miles away, and here you can take in the stunning views from the Steamer which operates daily, kayaking, sailing, body boarding and other water-based activities are on offer at many of the lakes or simply enjoy a picnic on the shore. There are many other lakes in the area, including Windermere, Derwentwater, and Coniston to name a few and all are well worth a visit! Alternatively, take a trip on the Carlisle - Settle railway line (you can catch this train in Appleby), take in the spectacular sights of the Yorkshire Dales, and travel over the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, once you’ve reached your destination you won’t be disappointed, explore the market town of Skipton or pack a picnic and spend the day just enjoying the fantastic countryside before your return journey.
