Attention to detail missing somewhat
Friendly staff who I feel are let down by a lack of investment in the building, infrastructure and facilities. Crockery was clean in the room or at breakfast. Our room whilst on first look seemed fine was grubby with crumbs and dust in the tea tray. It had been prepared for our stay, just not very well.

Dirty and a little tired
Our room was not very clean (thick dust anywhere you moved something and on the bin in the bathroom) and felt quite tired. In addition to this the radiator was stuck on and they could not resolve the issue as there was no maintenance person available. We could not swap rooms either and it was suggested to keep the window open. Unfortunately the window opened out near some sort of extractor and was extremely noisy early in the morning. The front desk was hard to get hold of after 9pm and the phone number for it was not answered. Positives were that the room was a good size and the bathroom was a good size.

I expected more from this property. When we arrived the main reception was cordoned off without any signs until you reach the doors so we had to go around the building in the pouring rain to find the spa reception, they could have signed it earlier pointing to go to the spa reception to save you some time. Upon leaving we had realised we completely missed out the fancy rooms near the recption due to that part being closed, I think I would have really enjoyed those rooms. The reception staff were lovely and helpful, couldn't fault them at all. We were taken to our room, which felt special but the wardrobe hadn't been cleaned out as we had old socks in there from past guests I presume. When we went to the spa there were a few dead flies and a dead spider on the floor around the pool and facilities were the same as a spa I go to at home but this one costs three times more. Heated floor in the changing room was a nice addition though. When we went to have food at The Clock Tower restaurant, the staff were awful, they were forgetting everything we had asked for: to clean my placemat as it had something sticky on it, our drinks, sauce we had asked for with the meal. I'm not sure of the work ethic but something wasn't working there and you'd think the standard would be high with service at a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. Otherwise the food was absolutely delicious. Luckily, the staff at breakfast were much better and could prioritise the guests. Breakfast was lovely, a nice spread!

Being refurbished.
Having stayed here some years ago we were disappointed with our room and there only being a temp restuarant.....I have to say the hotel is under refurb and what they had done was lovely ie corridors and main reception hall...our room ..no 8...was very large but had seen better days..ie paper peeling in places and thick dust could be seen on the swags on the curtains..albeit it very high up....bed nice and large..clean and very comfortable. Bathroom again very large and was nice..think it had been refurbished.. No bottled water just a filled bottle and only 1 small biscuit between two of us. Staff saved the day by being so helpful and pleasant ..they could not do enough for you..we did not complain or anything during our stay...they were just very good especially the lady on reception, the lady who showed us to our room and served breakfast..who had been there 18 years and the two young ladies in the restuarant and bar who were under a lot of pressures as the place was full and the wait times for food were quite long ie we waited about half an hour for our dessert..not their fault as they were doing the bar and serving. Swimming pool was big...very cold but had a nice swim and jacuzzi... I think once the rooms are refurbished and the lovely restuarant that used to be there reopens it will be a lovely place to stay again. Overall despite disappointing room we did have a pleasant stay as staff were so good.

Really good stay over in NW Wales.
Good hotel. Friendly staff took the time to enquire about our stay, room, dinner, etc. Plenty of parking, spacious rooms, comfy bed. Dinner and breakfast were really good with a good selection of wines, beers and spirits. The only issue was the indoor pool temperature was too cold. My wife and I, and other guests we talked to in the pool thought it should be warmer. Other than that we had a good stay over. I'd stay again if I was in that area.

Bad luck conspired against us, staff were helpful
Lovely room, lovely spa. We had an issue with a noisy snoring neighbour and were moved rooms at 11.30. The replacement room was chilly (heating wasnt on in that room it seems in the day) and not as nice - and the bath water wasnt more than lukewarm until 6 am, but the staff were helpful and apologetic. We managed a few hours sleep but it did unfortunately take the shine off the birthday celebration. Breakfast was great, i would return but probably in warmer weather.

Most of our stay was very good; pleasant and helpful staff etc. BUT our plane was delayed and we would not arrive until after midnight. We called to advise of this and were told there would be a telephone number on the front door to call for access. We did (at around 1:20 a.m.) call 8 times and no answer. Ended up having to drive 15 miles to find another hotel that had night staff. When we went back the next day the front office staff were very apologetic and went out of their way to make us welcome and paid for our other hotel stay. The issue is after missed connections and a transatlantic flight and a 2 1/2 hour drive in the rain we were very tired! Not good.

This is an old Victorian Hotel which has seen much better days. The bedrooms and public rooms are very tired and faded and need total renovation. However our stay was redeemed by a lovely pool and a good meal in the bar. Also the staff were friendly and very efficient.
