About this property

Family house in idyllic rural location, close to St Ives and stunning beaches.

The Moors is our family home in beautiful countryside in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is in an ideal location for families that love beach life being only 5 minutes by car from St Ives but is also a great spot for walkers and those interested in wildlife (resident badgers, foxes rabbits and stoats) or in a wild and ancient landscape dotted with remains of settlements, standing stones etc.

The Moors is a lovely granite built farmhouse style property which dates back to 1700 and was formerly a smelting works for the local tin mines.
It is set in four acres of grounds, which include garden areas and a pretty stream for paddling.
The house is set off road on the edge of moorland and the network of ‘tinners’ pathways enable visitors to walk for miles without encountering a road. Favourite walks include to Zennor on the north coast, stopping at the Tinners Arms pub (great crab sandwiches!) taking in ancient quoits, or to Roger's Tower, an 18th century folly on the site of an iron age settlement with spectacular 360 views over West Cornwall.
A shorter walk can be taken to Baker's Pit Nature Reserve. The former clay pit is now a small lake which is used by locals for 'wild swimming' during hot weather.

At night here it is quiet and dark, the peace interrupted only by the calls and activities of the local wildlife. The dark skies enable stargazers to enjoy the amazing spectacle of the constellations and Milky Way.

In the field adjoining the house we keep chickens, including our (not TOO loud) cockerel, Macbeth, so can usually supply you with fresh eggs.
We love our home and are delighted to be able to offer it to other families to enjoy during the summer when we are often away. We live in it for the rest of the year, so you will find all the usual family bits and pieces around for your comfort and enjoyment and we know that you will cherish and respect our home while you are here.

The house is comfortably furnished with a mix of long owned family pieces and a few more contemporary items and local art works. We believe you will find it feels friendly and welcoming.

The house has four bedrooms, one is a family room with a king size bed, a single bed and a single truckle bed that pulls out from underneath. The single beds are standard size and with good quality mattresses, so fine for adults as well as children.

You may be interested to know that there is a charming stable conversion near to the house that sleeps two and also allows one small dog, this might be useful for larger parties or where a couple need privacy from the rest of the party (grandparents often appreciate this!). This can be booked separately if available.

Check in/Change over Saturdays.

Lovely Stay in Cornwall
The property is bright and spacious whilst retaining a great family atmosphere. It exceeded our expectations and we had a wonderful time. The hosts were to hand and provided helpful advice as well as giving us a massive cornish cream tea! The location is great being between St Ives and Penzance, not very far from the B3311, making access very easy. Thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful house, beautiful location, Fabulous holiday
Our family of grandparents, siblings and toddlers had a lovely holiday at the Moors. The best equipped house ever, with toys for the children, chickens, table tennis, smart TV, Alexa, walks from the front gate. All the things you have at home, like sewing kit, matches, herbs and spices were there. A real home from home. Mark and Maggie were available when needed but never intrusive. Thank you very much for a lovely week.

Hidden Cornish Treasure
What a gem of a place to stay. Situated halfway between St Ives and Penzance, close enough to be on a beach in just a short drive, but far enough away to enjoy peace and seclusion in very comfortable and spacious surroundings. How fortunate we were that Trixie the cat had permitted her people (the wonderful Margaret and Mark) to rent out her beautiful residence! Mark and Margaret are great hosts - available if help or advice was needed but not “in your face” the rest of the time. We were a group of six adults, three couples with a friendship stretching back over a number of decades! There was plenty of space for privacy, as well as a garden for games (the table tennis table is great fun) and a bbq for the all important feasting! A well equipped kitchen and a spacious dining table, and plenty of comfy seating, everything was spot on. Cannot speak too highly of how good it is to stay at Ludgvan. We hope to return.

Beautiful Country House near St Ives
We have just arrived back from a perfect week in Cornwall staying at the Moors. The property is in an ideal location in Cornwall for visiting St Ives and surrounding areas. It is a characterful property, with large rooms and beautifully kept gardens. We were a group of 7, including two couples and found the property had plenty of space to accommodate us and it was great to have a separate bathroom, en-suite as well as a downstairs loo. We found the house immaculately clean and well kept. The Outside BBQ area, table tennis table and games provided us with plenty of entertainment for our nights in. Mark and Margaret were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome in their home. We would definitely visit again with family/ friends in future. Ben, Rebecca and friends from Nottingham

Fantastic find and amazing hosts
We were the 1st people to stay in Mark and Margaret's amazing home. We arrived on 4th July - the 1st day the travel lockdown was lifted in England. Due to all the uncertainty around this time Mark was incredibly flexible and helpful - Many thanks for this Mark. The house is amazing in beautiful grounds which all makes for a relaxing stay. Inside the home is decorated beautifully, there is a huge conservatory and a great kitchen. All bedrooms have double or king size beds and are a good size. Outside, there are beautiful gardens + a couple of fields for games. There is also a great BBQ and fire pit which we enjoyed. Other members of our family also booked & stayed in The Smithy & Tinners Warren making it a great place if you want to meet up with extended family during your stay, Mark & Margaret are great hosts. On hand should you need help or advice - but allowingyou to have your own space. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at the Moors and would not hesitate to recommend this house & location fro your family's holiday. Nigel & Adele + Family The location is perfect, around 4 miles from both St Ives & Penzance in a peaceful small village.

Wonderful stay at "The Moors"
Located between Penzance and St Ives we just had the best holiday at "The Moors". We were two families (4 adults & 4 kids), had the whole of the house and the greatly cared for garden at our disposal. The weather was good & the scones were to die for! Mark & Margaret are just wonderful hosts. Thank you so much for you hospitality.
