Grade Il Historic Cottage in Mousehole
Jamaica Terrace is a carefully appointed historic Grade II listed cottage tucked in the heart of Mousehole, just short a stroll from the harbour front.
A perfect home for couples and single travellers, you'll be enjoying fabulous sea views from the moment you wake up each day.
With a sympathetic yet complete refurbishment retaining iconic and interesting features, such as the range in the kitchen or the wood panelling in the bathroom, you'll be charmed by the history of the area and home.
1 Jamaica Terrace is tucked away in the heart of Mousehole, just a short walk from everything this charming village has to offer.
A local shipwright, Henry Wright, who traded in Jamaica, built the cottage in 1835, hence the name of this small terrace of cottages. A characterful granite cottage with wonderful sea views from the living room and bedroom, towards St Christopher's Isle and Mounts Bay beyond.
In a very quiet area of the village in an area best accessed on foot, you'll find all the amenities in short walking distance from pubs, cafes, restaurants, galleries and a small local shop. The harbour beach is a 1 minute walk.
As you enter Jamaica Terrace you'll instantly note historic features, like the range in the kitchen, kitchen tiles and the narrow/steep staircase.
The kitchen and lounge area are on the ground floor. The kitchen is equipped with a modern electric oven and hob, washing machine, crockery, utensils and a small dining table for two.
The cosy lounge has comfortable seating, a wood burner for cosy evenings, table and chairs, TV and a large window with lovely views.
Head upstairs and you'll find the bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom features a king size bed, chest of drawers, hanger, dressing table and a fabulous window seat to while away some time with a book. And did we mention the views? This is the best spot in the house in our opinion.
The spacious bathroom is a favourite feature of ours. The roll top bath (with overhead shower), stunning paint choices, original wood panelling and choices of fixtures make this a stunning space for a soak and relax.
Please note the following:
The stairs are steep and narrow.
The property has a sprinkler system in the kitchen to provide additional safety in the event of a fire.
Parking is not provided, we recommend either the Harbour or Mousehole Car Park on the edge of the village. (The train to Penzance and then a bus or taxi to the village is a great way to arrive).
Unloading isn't possible outside, we'd recommend walking from the car parks with luggage (5 minute walk).
Mousehole is a lovely neighbourhood with a strong local community. With a history as a fishing village the harbour is the focal point of the village.
We're a local team at Ocean Holidays Cornwall, we manage the property on behalf of the owners.
Based in Penwith we have excellent local knowledge and can recommend several stunning places to visit including beaches, restaurants, things to do and great walks.
Our approach is generally hands off, we use a keysafe system for easy check-in/out but we may just knock on to say hello. The owners do live in the village itself.
We're here to assist by phone or the Airbnb messaging service.
Mousehole is a traditional village which attracts visitors all year around. It's traditional granite cottages, picturesque harbour and renowned arts scene make it a great place all year round. In the village itself you'll find a pub (The Ship Inn), cafes, a couple of restaurants including the renowned The Old Coastguard, galleries and a small selection of shops.
There are some excellent walks nearby, the South West Coast Path to the West has some stunning rugged scenery, towards Newlyn is a nice easy walk to this fishing port with a good local indy cinema, excellent fishmongers and some great restaurants to.
Mousehole has some very narrow roads and a one way system which makes driving around the village itself quite tricky. If you can travel by public transport to Cornwall with ease you might find that a good way to get to Mousehole, particularly in the busier times. Penzance is on the mainline and is a 15 minute taxi away, there is also a bus service. Once here you will find lots in the immediate area and local buses can take you to some of the most stunning places in this corner of the UK. There are also bike hires in Penzance which can be really handy.
If arriving by car we'd suggest using one of the two main car parks, you'll find you can access several other parts of West Cornwall with relative ease so exploring can be much easier with a car.
