Castle Cottage Near Perugia With Large Pool, Garden And Private Patio

We love to let our wonderful holiday house in Umbria. Approx. 20km from Tuscany. Our cottage is part of a 13th century castle complex (Castello di Gaiche), fully renovated and restored to its original style. The castle lies on top of a hill with incredible views. The cottage is surrounded by a large garden with various seating areas, olive trees and lavender bushes. The swimming pool of approximately 7x15m is a 300m walk from the castle which guarantees the much appreciated silence at the castle and garden. The pool is only available for guests of the Castello. The surrounding area with Lago Trasimeno (Trasimeno Lake) counts many picturesque villages like Panicale, Citta della Pieve and Piegaro with fine restaurants. The famous cities of Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto and Montefalco are all less than 1 hour drive. Montepulciano, Siena, Florence and Rome are within driving distance (approx 1.5 - 2h). Nearby airports: Perugia (from London Stansted), Pisa, Florence and Rome (Ciampino and Fiumicino)

Castillo de Guaiche
Quirky property, Castle divided into numerous rental properties with large well tended garden and great views of the Umbrian countryside. You definitely need a car if staying here unless your sole purpose here is walking! The road up is very steep with lots of bends, don’t let that put you off though, it’s well worth it when you arrive. Pool is excellent with lots of sun beds and always quiet during our stay, 300m walk and toilets provided too! The accommodation is acceptably clean but attention is needed in some areas outside and inside. Generally in a good condition but it’s an older property so make allowances for that in that everything works in its own way (shower is a little hit and miss). The property is great for a couple and two kids, one good double and a room with two singles, however one single is raised on a platform so not suitable for a much younger child in my opinion. Windows have blinds but both rooms would benefit by having ceiling fans too as can be very hot. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils etc but no dinner plates or large tumblers in the cupboard! We bought cheap dinner plates, they may still be there! The kitchen has a large fridge which was great. We loved our stay here, it really is a beautiful part of Umbria and we would return and stay here again, very relaxing!

This is a wonderful place. It is tucked up in the hills and is a beautiful setting.
There is no Wi-Fi here so unplug and enjoy the surroundings. The other apartments are owned privately and meeting the other owners was a nice surprise. It’s lovely

Lovely retreat
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Castello Di Gaiche. The nearby towns of Tavernelle and Panicale were picturesque, friendly, and had all we needed (restaurants, groceries, etc). We spent most of our stay travelling around Umbria, and this location was easy access to all. We would recommend this property to friends and family, and would definitely return for another stay.

Charming little castle turned into holiday homes
Beautiful little castle turned into 9 separate holiday homes. The large garden offers great opportunity for relaxing. It is a shared garden, so when all apartments are occupied, it may be a little full. The pool is greatly refreshing! The home is nicely furnished, simple but tasteful. The area is beautiful, but it is a little out of the way so expect some driving to anywhere you wish to go (30 minutes to Trasimeno, 20 minutes to Citta della Pieva, 30 minutes to Perugia, for example).

Unique Castle-Villa!
This villa offers is a extraordinary experience! Surrounded in an olive grove on the grounds of a 12-centure castle, this fully,recently-renovated villa offers a unique experience. It is ideally located to explore the small towns & countryside of Umbria. It is spacious, well maintained, and well-appointed. This castle-villa offers a "great escape" - the setting is tranquil (actually quite quiet as were there in October) and with a sense of seclusion (without TV or WiFi, and internet access only outdoors). Special thanks to Daniella & Franceso for their welcome, hospitality and availability during our stay. We'd love to return some day! Paul Greig & Anne McAlear, Toronto, Ont., Canada

A delightful cosy cottage set in beautiful, peaceful countryside
We had a fabulous holiday in this gorgeous cottage, which is set in idyllic countryside at the top of a very windy hill. The views are stunning and we enjoyed the peace and quiet, the only noise coming from the very vocal crickets. The outside covered seating area was especially wonderful with a lovely view over the peaceful garden. The cottage had everything we needed and we loved our stay. Our 5-year-old daughter particularly enjoyed the bunk bed in her bedroom. We met a few of the residents from the other privately owned apartments and they were very friendly. The pool was delightful and we loved the fact it was a short distance away from the apartments, we had it to ourselves on some occasions. Umbria is a very beautiful part of Italy with many places to visit which weren’t too far away. We would have liked a little more information about the Castello and the local area. The only negatives if you can call them that, was the microwave did not work, which wasn’t a big problem, we reported this to Francesco early on in our stay but it wasn’t fixed before we left. We also managed to trip the electric which we were aware could happen from the reviews on this site, but had it not been for the neighbours who were only too happy to help, we wouldn’t have known how to get the power back on without contacting Francesco – perhaps some instructions in the cottage would be helpful. This a beautiful place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

Hilltop Peace and Quiet
This is a gorgeous little house - not lavishly equipped, but with everything we needed. Part of a small hilltop community at the end of a perfectly windy road - we were bowled over by how special the place is. Immediate access to terrace and a garden with sun all day, trees for shade, heavenly views, lingering sunsets and the odd extremely quiet neighbour. Utter peace and quiet - we were woken only by the birds and untroubled by the internet. Loved the fact that the commodious swimming pool is a step or two apart , and can neither be seen nor heard. Take detailed maps for walking/exploring as there are none in the house, and a portable light so you can see what you are doing at the cooker. Also be aware that if you switch off the plug under the boiler cupboard in the kitchen - you'll turn off the hot water boiler. We longed for more information about the castello, but apart from that it was a perfect, utterly peaceful and beautiful holiday spot.

Lovely location and property
Interior a little tired like only one not very comfortable chair and old sofa. No light over cooker difficult to see the dials. Shower new but a very poor mix of hot and cold water. All things that can be remided and then a great place.

Loved our stay...
Just returned from our fab holiday. Lovely little cottage set in the most beautiful surroundings. At the top of a very winding road, with great views. We met a few of the other residents in the privately owned apartments in both the main building and the cottage next to this one and they were all lovely and full of useful tips about the area! A great pool not too far from the cottage, we pretty much had it to ourselves! There are some local walks up into the hillside which my Husband enjoyed, whilst I sat and enjoyed the peace and quiet in the garden! The site is very well maintained with Francesco not too far away if you need anything. The cottage itself was equipped with just about everything you need and the washing machine is located down by the pool if needed. You will definitely need a car, we did a lot of travelling around. The region and it's towns are just beautiful. Communication with Rolf both when making the initial booking and in the run up to the holiday was excellent. Peaceful, tranquil, beautiful what more can I say. Loved it and would highly recommend. Thank you Rolf.

Wonderful location for peaceful & relaxed holiday
This is a great location for exploring Umbria. The property is rustically furnished and in keeping with what is a medieval castle on a hill top! Driving is a must as most places are at least 30 minutes away, but what fabulous places, Assisi, Perugia, Spelloo, Panicale and loads more.

Very pretty but quite isolated
Lovely little cottage in a picturesque setting. Lovely large pool (although with a large wasps nest nearby that could do to be removed!). Beautiful gardens and grounds and spectacular views. The cottage stayed very cool inside, even during the hottest part of the day. We had to be careful not to use more than one to two appliances at a time or the electricity would go off, but once we had worked this out this was not too inconvenient. The location is quite isolated, with little interruptions or noise. The nearest shop is around 15 minutes drive away. A lovely place if you're looking for a quiet escape!

Lovely place to stay
The cottage is very pretty and very well equipped. The gardens and pool are brilliant for relaxation and the views are breathtaking. We had a fantastic week with two children (10 and 6) on their first holiday abroad, and they had a brilliant time. Couldn't get a reception on the TV, but preferred to be out in the garden or on the terrace playing games anyway. Thanks for a brilliant place to stay!

tranquil property in a great location with beautiful views
The property was clean and tidy on arrival and the local contact was very friendly and helpful. directions weren't easy to follow but Google maps saved us. Located at the top of a large hill means that it is well secluded. Perfect for the two of us needing some relaxation. The shared pool we had to ourselves most of the time. Definitely need a car to get here and out and about. This place is highly recommended! Get some local wine and sit on the hilltop surveying your Kingdom.

Lovely property in a very secluded location within easy reach of Perugia and surrounding area.
This is a delightful little cottage in a very secluded and pretty hilltop location and a car is a must as the nearest shops, restaurants etc are a few miles away. It is very quiet and relaxing and definitely suits those who want to get away from it for a week or longer. Personally we had a great week but a couple of things nagged on the downside and the description of the cottage equipment could do with some “adjustment”. Although a TV is listed (with Satellite / Cable) and in fact a TV is provided it does not appear to be connected to an aerial of any sort so only any good as a DVD player or Media player if you take something to plug into it. Similarly there is no oven provided in the cottage and this coupled with the fact that the Microwave Grill appears to only work on grill (not microwave) makes it difficult to prepare anything except one pot dishes. Lastly there is a washing machine listed and we packed accordingly only to find that it does not exist. The other suggestion that we have for the owner as an improvement would be to provide a guest manual and book. This should contain the usual basic info provided as standard in so many other holiday lettings such as nearest supermarkets, how equipment in the property works, opening times etc and would also allow previous guests to share what they have found locally that is good, or bad. To clarify we rate the property and the location as a 5 out of 5 but it is let down by small details and an inaccurate equipment list.
