Front desk staff was amazing. Super informative. Even told us the breakfast special the next morning. Parking was difficult due to limited spaces (Christmas banquets) and semis taking up space. Tavern United was a gong show. Took over an hour for our food. At one point we asked them if we should go somewhere else. No apology, explanation was a large group was there before us. Management/server should explain that when we were seated.

Sitting room was nice and spacious in the room. Appreciated Aaltos and the Tavern being right in the hotel. Close to other restaurants and shopping. Worked out great to stay with family.

Very nice place, but not quite what we expected for the king family room, thought it would be one king bed for privacy and the rest of the beds in the other room, but had 2 beds in the one room and a pull out couch for the extra sleeping arrangements, but very nice room

Best option in Portage, but still some drawbacks
Overall, the Canad Inns Portage la Prairie was great. It was clean, big, and felt like a place locals came to for a fancy night out. The hotel is clearly renowned for their pool, and while our 4 year old thoroughly enjoyed it, it also had serious drawbacks: too cold to stay in for long, awkwardly shallow for adults, and no supervision which meant some kids were running wild. Another MAJOR drawback was that none of the rooms had exterior windows. Just one window to the hallway, which meant drawn drapes the entire stay. It felt like we were in a cave. I would still recommended this hotel to anyone staying in Portage, as it seems like the best option available, especially if traveling with kids. It also had a decent buffet restaurant and tavern on site, so the convenience can’t be beat.

Mostly good experience - clean, etc. My only complaint is that there was no window to the outside, the small window opened to the indoor swimming pool. So I had to use lights all the time and had no sense of what was happening outside. Had I known, I would have asked for a different room.

Conveniently located near the west side of Portage La Prairie. Location is near a Tim Hortons, Boston Pizza, McDonalds and a few other options. Never did use the hot tub or pool/waterslide. Minor issues with toilet and lighting when we checked in, but they were quickly fixed. Onsite restaurant was okay although one meal included a piece of hard plastic in the food - the waitresses were very apologetic and the entire meal was for free, but we never ate there again.

The staff at front desk and restaurant were very friendly. The suite we stayed in was clean. The pull out couch bed was a disaster sagging almost to floor so asked for a cot. The cot came made up with bedding which was dirty and appeared to have been slept in !! The springs on frame of cot were broken. The fridge needed to be defrosted and freezer thick with ice not allowing fridge to cool. The wall mounted hair dryer started smoking when I used had an electrical burnt smell. The front desk staff very apologetic and accommodating having maintenance remove dryer from room and provided us with another blow dryer. Food and service great at Altos restaurant.
