Sunny 1400 SQFT Dutch Colonial in Portland Heights - 5 min to downtown, NW 23rd

Sunny Stanhope Cottage is a sunny, spacious 120 year old Dutch Colonial Duplex in the beautiful, peaceful, historic Portland Heights neighborhood overlooking downtown Portland.

We are located in a quiet historic neighborhood, surrounded by nature, with plenty of space to go on walks and bike riding but close to downtown and restaurants. Bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks and deer can be spotted as well as many song birds. With our two outdoor decks and large kitchen and living room it is a perfect place to relax with your family.

The duplex is only 5 minutes (just over a mile) to the shops, restaurants and cafes of the Alphabet District (NW 23rd), downtown and Pearl. Close to OHSU and PSU. The 1400 square foot lower duplex is available year round for stays up to 5 weeks and features an open floor plan, two decks with site views up to Council Crest, southern exposure for sun all day long, two bedrooms with queen beds, a fold down couch bed for one more person in the living room, a beautiful dinning room for 8 people, a fully equipped kitchen (perfect for home cooked meals) and a very large living room. Great for family gatherings for holidays, showers, weddings, graduation, etc.

Please note that the bedrooms are organized in a tandem layout with a hall to the bathroom between them. So our place is better for single couples, families and groups of friends than for two unrelated couples who may want privacy during sleep hours. Per city regulation our max occupancy is 5 overnight.

The immediate neighborhood offers excellent walking, jogging and biking along tree lined streets filled with beautiful old Portland homes. Council Crest (Portland's highest point) and Washington Park Rose Garden are 20 minutes by foot. The Vista Spring Cafe is a 5 minute walk away and close to the bus stop for line 51.

The duplex also features a 7 foot Mason Hamlin Piano which is available to serious pianists with advance notice. A guitar is available to all. Keith and Rocio are your hosts. We live in the upper duplex. We are quiet and work full time but friendly and helpful if you need us. House is equipped with a stereo and smart tv with basic cable only (bring your books or tablet for streaming) and it has a gas furnace. Summers in Oregon tend to not be very hot with low humidity but we did add a window AC unit in the library bedroom last summer which is strong enough to keep the two bedrooms cooler during hotter weather that climate change is bringing us. We also provide fans to bring in cool air in evening on warm days.

Comfortable bungalow
The place was perfect for me and my two sisters. Very comfortable and safe. However it was difficult to find with the twisting roads and closeness of the homes. Also, the roads were very narrow and steep making it difficult navigating the area.

This is a beautiful place with a grand piano, lovely art and furniture and in a great neighborhood. The owners were friendly and walked us to the door, came to say goodbye, and helped us figure out parking. The neighborhood is quiet and full of wonderful homes and trees. They have an incredible selection of books. It was a bit cool inside, which we like, especially for sleeping. It was snowing in early March, which is unusual. Would definitely stay again!

Outstanding Vacation Apartment
We stayed here for a week at the start of our visit to the Pacific Northwest. Congratulations to Rocio, who decorated the apartment beautifully and made it feel like a home! Loved the artwork. Nice, quiet section of Portland. Fully equipped, we had absolutely everything we needed. Large, comfortable patio area. Don't miss the Japanese Garden or the Saturday PSU Farmers Market. Our friendly host Keith was always readily available with assistance and recommendations. Thanks especially for recommending Papa Haydn and the superb Boccone Dolce! We would happily return.

Loved Stanhope Cottage
Tucked away in a lovely culdesac, beautiful little house with a lovely flower laden deck, very comfy and cozy for a small family. Nice kitchen with all necessary appliances for anyone who wants to cook. Not to mention a beautiful piano if you play. Hosts were accomodating and available, even while away on vacation themselves. Take in to account single lane driveway, so if you have your own car you'll need to coordinate parking with the host. Also, as a family of 5 we had enough beds, but not enough storage for clothes, etc. Overall the setting is beautiful and the house is lovely and I would highly recommend it.

Good Space for family (with some accessibility issues)
First the things we loved! The location was lovely and the house was spacious and clean. The hosts were responsive and kind. We loved the deck and the greenery surrounding the house. The house was also quite interesting and had a lot of character. We did have a few small issues with our stay. The house is very inaccessible and if you have any mobility issues you will struggle getting in and out of this location. There are several stairs and uneven ground up to the door. The listing mentioned an air conditioning unit in the library. However, when we arrived the unit was not installed and we struggled with keeping the house cool throughout the day in the heatwave. Only 1 of the beds is an actual bed. The second room has a futon which was not very comfortable. You also have to walk through one bedroom to get to the other. Finally, the bathroom door did not close all the way and got stuck at one point with my sister inside. Overall, our stay was nice and as long as you are able bodied and able to get into the house and you don't mind it being a little toasty in the summer this is a wonderful location near parks and in a super safe area of Portland. The hosts were considerate and went out of their way to help us park and were very kind throughout our stay.

Portland is Beautiful
The city of Portland is amazing, and our stay in Portland Heights made it even better! The house is in a beautiful neighborhood in the hills. Keith, our host, provided a very nice binder of interesting information on Portland and Oregon in general. We used a lot of the information to enjoy the city and countryside alike. Keith was very kind and accommodating. The house was super cool! There was even a beautiful grand piano! I would definitely recommend a stay.

Little Oasis in Portland
My family and I had a wonderful visit at this VRBO. It was in a good location for getting to everywhere we wanted to go. We loved the house for visiting. The sun was out and we enjoyed the deck. The kitchen, living and dining area gave us plenty of room to play cards, listen to the record player and enjoy meals. My little one was honored to get to play the grand piano and we got a warm welcome from our hosts. Keith shared a beautiful piece with us on the piano as well. Great house.
