Seemed like a nice place, but rental not handled well
Seemed like a nice house and location. Rustic, cute, and clean. As some reviewers warned, steps to bedrooms are steeper than steep stairs (with bathroom downstairs). So it’s a climb, but not all that bad depending on age and mobility. Beds looked ok, but I can’t speak for them because we didn’t stay. When we checked in, there was NO phone service. Namely, landline phones mentioned in the VRBO listing were dead. The lack of cell phone service was warned about in the VRBO listing. But the landline phone was supposed to be the solution to that. Landline phone cover in kitchen even had a piece broken out of it like someone had smashed it with a hammer. (We took a photo.) Wifi was also so slow that we couldn’t get a connection to call out for help. There was also a smoke detector beeping when we got there, probably due to low battery alert. No one could be expected to sleep through that. That would be an easy fix - IF someone responds to check on it and take care of it. And that was the problem. Once we drove to a place where I could make a call, I called the local property manager and owner about the lack of phone service and the beeping smoke detector. Property manager never called us back and owner (whose name and number were posted on call list on fridge) just got mad and told me to call property manager (which I had already done) and not him. Since I couldn’t make those calls from the house, we had to leave. Then since I never heard back from them, we didn’t go back.

Mixed review
The stairs are in violation of any code and are treacherous. The bedrooms are nice. But do not bring luggage up the stairs, they are unsafe if you are carrying anything. The kitchen is nice. The living room is nice, but a little snug with the luggage in it. The bathroom is small and getting into the shower is interesting. You have to sort of climb around the toilet, and you enter on the side with the spigot. The yard is lovely and not at all private. The carriage paths are indeed close by, and if you have your own bikes that's great. If not, bike rental is 8 miles away.

Disappointing
There is black mold throughout the house. You can see it and smell it. The furniture is old, unmatched and uncomfortable. The staircase is narrow and steep.Beds are uncomfortable. I would not recommend this property.

Location, location…
Great location for hiking Acadia NP. Inquired if there was a fire pit, the booking agency said no, but we found out as we were leaving that there was a shared fire pit-disappointed. Stairs to bedrooms were very steep-ok for able adults, but hazardous for children and others. Enjoyed the accommodations and location.

Should not be listed until renovated.
I do not like writing this review as the property is a fun little house in a perfect location. Unfortunately, the mold/mildew in this house makes it unlivable for anyone with even the slightest sensitivity to mold. The shower has wood walls and is covered in black mold which permeates the entire first floor. We only slept in the house and could not use it for cooking, cleaning or relaxing. In my opinion this property should be removed from listing until the aforementioned mold issue if remedied permanently.

Needs a lot of work
House needs a lot of work; gas grill barely works, trash cans missing, shower door leaks, doors & windows hard to open, and the kitchen is barely stocked. Listing should mention more clearly that there is no A/C, backyard is not fenced, and the landline doesn't work (didn't need it). Liked how close house was to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Not recommended for seniors due to steepness of stairs.

Sad Property
First of all I will say the stairs are DANGEROUS!! 2 beds upstairs make it difficult to use the downstairs bathroom at night. It would be very dangerous for young children or older adults! The home was filthy and outdated. The furnishings were torn and dirty. The shower was old and the toilet was rusted and cracked. Coffee pot was disgusting. Beds were lumpy and very squeaky. Plenty of towels and the linens were clean. The property management company was wonderful to work with but the stay was awful. Also NO washer and dryer as advertised and no closets to hang clothes in the bedrooms.

Very disappointed
The beds were terrible. They are old, worn out and lumpy. The stairs going up to the bedrooms are very steep and narrow. They were hard for me to climb and my service dog could not make it up them and actually fell down the stairs. She had lay on the landing all night and not be with me. The couch is old and uncomfortable. The landlord kept putting the privacy screen on the patio up without asking so no privacy. I had a lovely view of the neighbor on the other side in his underwear every morning. The driveway is small and hard to get in and out of and the property itself was difficult to find. Kitchen is stocked with bare minimum yard sale quality dishes and utensils. Stove is very old and dirty. The house is not nearly as nice as the staged photos of it. Overall it sucked.
