This hotel is really a gem. Styling is elegant and service is excellent. We chose the Bistro for dinner since there are limited restaurants in walking distance. Best choice! Food was very good. Finishing the day with a beautiful bathtub made this weary traveler very happy.

Built as one of the great railway hotels in 1925, the Esplanade still has a grand feel about it. For what you pay (not much compared to 5 star hotels in Europe) it is a wonderful place. Bar is friendly and the cocktails are good with lots of local options. Had breakfast and it was good with a selection of local items. Bit of a walk (15 minutes) to the old part of town but Zagreb is a small place and easy to walk around. I enjoyed walking through the parks to get to the more interesting areas of town. A good value if you want a classic style of old school grand hotel.

A very disappointing stay. The property should not be given 5 stars. The room we were staying in was very small (not reflecting the pictures), it was extremely dated and had no basic amenities like complementary water or tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel needs a thorough renovation.
