BETTER THAN EXPECTED!
Was apprehensive about selecting this hotel due to the noted poor ratings. Decided to stay there due to the near proximity to St. John's. So I went there with limited expectations. I was surprisingly pleased with my stay there. Very friendly staff especially Mr. Joseph at the front desk. Maybe I was just there at the right time but the environment was peaceful and quiet. The property is attached to a beautiful beach that captivates the most picturesque sunsets. There is an adequate restaurant on the property and a nice pool. The rooms are clean with mini fridge and Wifi. There is a small exercise room that can use some upgrading or at least the addition of some free weights but has a universal machine and is serviceable. The only downer was during my checkout dealing with a rather rude woman at the desk. Overall I would still give it a thumbs up!

Worst Hotel I have stayed in!!!
On arrival no bell boy for luggage. At dinner only myself and my wife same breakfast, same dinner and breakfast. No entertainment. 1 restaurant, 1 bar. Dirty pool, broken loungers and worst of all inedible food at exorbitant prices compounded by the ++ taxes. We had to stay Saturday, Sunday but left on Monday as soon as possible. Web site a pack of lies and Expedia should not have sent us there!!!

Pools were disgusting, no activities as listed
Do not go to this hotel unless you plan not to use the pool or any of the activities listed in the description. We went for Christmas '16, there was not one decoration or bit of music for the holiday. There was nothing to do there. The description lists parasailing, jet skis, etc but there was nothing there. Beach chairs were chained up. There was a dock to see the sunken ship which lies in the adjacent bay and that too was closed. Pools were unusable. They were disgustingly dirty and appeared not be cleaned in weeks, maybe months. Lounge chairs were not provided. Rooms were ok, tvs were old. Place looked a bit run down and deserted. The only upside was the food. It was fresh and well-prepared. Restaurant staff nice. A ride from this hotel to anywhere was $30 round trip, as it in the middle of nowhere.

Do Not Waste your Money
This was the WORST Hotel we have ever booked. We could not stay here. We asked for a refund, but will be checking our credit card to make certain they are not charging us. They put us in a room - the air conditioning was not working. They told us they were sold out - booked solid.....only 3 cars in the parking lot. We attempted to stay. The air conditioning did not work in the second room; the maid never came; there was NO ONE in this hotel. We believe they only had 8 rooms working and even those didn't have air conditioning. When we went to check out after the first night, the person at registration did not seem surprised when we were checking out or telling them that the air conditioning did not work in the second room. The property is old, needs a serious facelift.

This hotel should not be open
My stay at this hotel was so disappointing. It has so much more potential. The hotel sits on a large piece of land but its falling apart (literally). It boasts having several restaurants on its website but only one was open. The pools looked disgusting. I wouldn't dare set foot in the pool. The beach is nice but it was deserted. However, the rooms were clean and spacious. The prices at the restaurant were pricey. Pretty ridiculous. I've heard from the locals that the hotel was shut down for some time and recently opened about a year ago...but when you speak to the staff they say they've been working there for 10+ years. The hotel is also secluded so you have to take a cab everywhere, which can be pricey.

Was nothing to write home about, the staff in the dining room was nice they is the only thing that was good about the hotel. Front desk clerk he was not pleasant. The air condition in the room they put me, did not work the toilet seat was nasty and brown, bathrooms was out dated. I could go on and on. Would not stay there again, also was too far

Almost Abandoned
there are 6 employees for the entire hotel. only part of the 3rd floor is open for guests and they have signs that they are doing repairs on 3/4th of the hotel, which is falling apart ( there is no work being done). DON'T STAY HERE. the only nice thing was the service at the bar.

in a nutshell... love the hotel
We had an amazing time the entire staff was nice and friendly they insured our stay was pleasant. The manager was very nice and was available if we ever had any issues. The females at the fro t desk wasn't informative but the young man that works at night answered all out questions. The rooms were clean and the AC was great. The beach was nice and clean as well as the beach. The chef was nice he came out so we could tell him thanks. The waitress were very nosey ease dripping on our convos but other than that they were nice. This hotel is secluded from everything but minutes to the town where everything us at your fingertips. Keep in mind this hotel has the potential to be a 5 star but I'll say its on a 4 star level.

Lies lies and more lies
Everything on this website about this hotel is a lie. They don't have more than half of the amenities listed. The hotel is very run down and needs to be painted and fixed. The wifi is HORRIBLE I tried to connect and it took me almost two days until I finally did. When I addressed this issue to the staff they gave me attitude about it and wouldn't even help me at all and said it wasn't there issue. The hotel beds are not even queens beds it's a LIE they are full beds and are highly uncomfortable the rooms are also filled with mosquitos. When we complained to the manager about the amenities the staff laughed and said Expedia needs to update their information because there is no amenities whatsoever in this hotel Except the pool and beach I HIGHLY RECCOMEND NOT GOING TO THIS HOTEL YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!!

The hotel has great bones, but clearly needs a major renovation. Clean rooms, gorgeous beach, friendly and helpful staff. Basics are fine, but wifi was terrible, and the rooms need work.

Not the end of the world
If you've ever wondered what it's like to have an almost private mansion, beach and pool, here is your chance. Lots of reviews complain about the decor and state of the building. Frankly this is what Hawaii will look like in 5-10 years. Floors 1-3 are under renovation. Not that I saw any work getting done. There is an article in the Observer magazine. It talks about the government taking over derelict properties. This property is under review by the government. Use your favourite search engine to find it. The cleaning staff was great. They managed to remove all the sand we tracked into the room every day. This is a great hotel for 2-3 days if you have a vehicle. If you are someone who needs to see and be seen by hundreds of people this isn't for you. It's a great property for kids. They can't wreck anything and there is no one around to hear them. The all inclusive option is expensive. I was quoted $250-$330USD/day. Three of us in the room. We got lucky. Booked the least expensive room and ended up with an ocean view. Worst case scenario, you'll be on the 4th floor facing the hill behind the hotel. Of course there are a few bad things. The dead cockroach that came out of the ice machine. The elevator always resets to the top floor. If you're not happy with this place, the internet is just strong enough to book another property.

Former . . . and future gem!!
Booked through Hotels.com when travel/flight/cruise arrangements were disrupted so "sight unseen". Although the facility has been allowed to run down, the original facility was tremendous and there are plans to refurbish. Rooms were excellent and the beach unparalleled. The staff could not have been more helpful and the new manager is a consumate host and will help the facility get back to prominence. Recommend you give it a shoot.

This hotel has seen better days. It seems as though it used to be a point of destination with 1st class accommodations and beach front property. Consequently this place requires maintenance, which is the issue. Beautiful place but ownership needs to take care of it better.

good for the price
We received a discount by booking flight and hotel on Expedia. The hotel has some shortcomings, but we were satisfied with the value in relation to the price we paid. Desk clerk was rude at check in. Restaurant over priced. Near a bad location. But security is good with guard at the gate and on the grounds 24/7. Free upgrade to beach view. Rooms were clean and maid service was good. View from the room was excellent. AC in room is adequate but could use improved circulation into bathrooms and sleeping area. It blows too hard directly on the desk area for someone sitting there. I was sweating in the bathroom and on the bed and cold at the desk.

The resort is very old, almost empty. Doesnt look like the picture and apparently those that travel to Antigua avoid it. The area where it is located has great beach, but nothing else there. Too expensive. Only place one can dine is in the hotel - expensive and not very good food. English Bay or Jolly Harbour would be way better areas to stay.

Not quite the Bates motel, because nobody dies
This hotel is in a beautiful Caribbean country - my mother said to say something nice or not at all. My wife and I were the only guests for most of our stay. The hallways were dirty, scary and abandoned. Just like the rest of the place. The beach is beautiful, but there is no staff to help you with a beach chair, as they are all chained up and no staff to be found! A non-guest remarked about the beach "what stunning beauty". And the hotel - "what stunning neglect"! Very disappointed and not worth our substantial cost to stay. Find somewhere else to stay.

confusing experience but not without it's charms
Simply put. This hotel which looks like it holds hundreds of people had between 8-15 guests the entire time we stayed -which was one week. This was during the busy season ( Feb, dry season ). Other hotels like nearby Sandals were teaming with tourists of all types. Now this was utterly weird to us, especially on our initial walk around the hotel and beach. There are 3 restaurants, but only 1 will be open a open once a day for a few hours so- if your hungry before 7pm but after 4pm- you're out of luck. Arranging for a taxi isn't as easy as you might think and they encourage you to book the driver in advance through the front desk. Not what I was expecting with a hotel of this size. The two biggest bummers where there were two menus at the restaurants and we got tired of the food, and the condition of the hotel is noticeably bad. Broken ice machines, bathroom door in our room didn't close or lock, wobbly railing on our ocean view room on the top floor (8th), outdated non HD tv with annoying lines across the screen, limited drink options. The whole place was operating on a shoe string budget. We popped for the ocean view room with a breakfast plan at around 300 US per night so overall not the fit and finish you'd expect for that cash. Redeeming qualities were the vacant beach, which is gorgeous! Felt nice to have it all to ourselves seemingly. If you plan on spending your entire trip at the hotel you might want to reconsider, the limited food options will bug you quickly.

Terrible hotel close to the beach
This was my 2nd stay at this hotel, my first stay was during carnival it was ok the beach was great. My 2nd stay was horrible. 1st there was no hot water for 3 of my 4 days, the phone in the room did not work for the 4 days we were there. The ice maker did not work for the 4 days we were there. The food was expensive and awful. The hotel staff could care less when u complained. From one staff member to the next everyone kept saying I left a note for the next person. I was glad to be gone from that place. Totally disappointed.
