It was in Tenterfield that Sir Henry Parks made his first Federation Speech, galvanizing public opinion (back in 1889) which ultimately led to the federation of all Australian states. Check out the exhibition honouring this important statesman at the Railway Station Museum. You can learn about other famous residents in Centenary Cottage, including Sir Stuart Donaldson - the owner of Tenterfield Station, he who became the first premier of NSW in 1856. Tenterfield rests on the Granite Belt, a wonderful wine region in Northern NSW. Boonoo Boonoo Falls is a tremendous waterfall, so don’t leave without grabbing a couple of great photos of the river dropping over 210 metres to the pools below.

Love birds? Visit Basket Swamp National Park, which is an important local wetland feeding many of the creeks in the Clarence River Valley System. Hundreds of different bird species call the area home, with a huge range of walking tracks to suit even the most avid bushwalker.
