The place is an older style building. I believe it was once a very busy pub as well as a diner.
We just wanted somewhere to stay to attend a birthday in the family.
Being totally realistic, the hotel could use some renovation, although I understand this is expensive. However, the hotel has no real excuse for its general lack of cleanliness.
Stair carpets to the rooms is very poor condition, and the whole walk up to the landing and the rooms are a little bit grubby. Our room itself was OK, but the bathroom and shower did leave a little bit to be desired. The shower particularly had black mildew in all four corners of the tray, and the drain was partially blocked, which meant that the tray filled up quicker than it drained. Towels and sheets were clean.
Breakfast was an option we took at our arrival. The breakfast itself, along with the service in the dining room was good.
We only saw receptionist on our arrival, but we felt that the waitress in the mornings would answer any issues.
It has the potential to be a fantastic hotel, but just falls short in the basics.
If I had to score it out of 10, it would sadly just about score a 6.
