About this property

GuestCottage on Old Mission, Pure Sand Beach, Sunset, Wineries, Couple's Respite

WIDE-RANGING & USEFUL INFORMATION
Bowers Harbor Guest Cottage is for those looking to experience the beauty and tranquility of a pure sand shoreline and beach. For the benefit of our neighbors, our guest cottage is only available to one or two adults. We are a non-smoking property. Our guest cottage is uniquely situated in a quiet neighborhood of mostly summer-use homes on the spectacular all- sand beach of Bowers Harbor on West Grand Traverse Bay. Ten miles from town, It is southwesterly facing with panoramic views from left to right of the Bowers Harbor Marina, Traverse City, beautiful Bowers Harbor, Power Island, Leelanau County and Neahtawanta Point. It is on nearly an acre of property, side-by-side with the owners' home, directly on 110' of the most beautiful of shorelines in the entire area, 25' of which is allocated for your private use.

Please let us know in your inquiry if you plan to bring a dog with you. We accept smaller dogs when approved by us, which must be crated when left alone for their own comfort and our peace of mind.

In light of the COVID virus, extensive cleaning measures are undertaken. We sanitize the cottage from top to bottom after each departure.

We are on the windward side of the Old Mission Peninsula and there is plenty of fresh air coming off the water.

Our house and guest cottage are separate buildings, so contactless interactions are possible. The separate path and beach area ensures no contact with neighbors or us unless desired.

Enjoy swimming in the gently sloped all-sand bottom harbor with its clear blue water and have a beach fire in the fire pit as you watch the sunset at night. Your smaller boat, kayaks and jet skis can be pulled up and kept on the beach. Paddle boards and kayaks are available to be rented and delivered from town . Our guest cottage has its own natural path to the beach and the neighborhood road is well behind the property, not between the cottage and the lake. Many guests have told us that this property is even better than the photos show.

Day trips to the quaint villages of Elk Rapids, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Glen Lake, Northport, Leland, Omena, Empire and the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Beulah and Charlevoix make wonderful excursions. Old Mission Peninsula has many well known wineries, one within walking distance. Amazing restaurants are also nearby, including the Boathouse, just down the beach from the guesthouse. Another favorite restaurant, Jolly Pumpkin Brew Pub, is a mile away on Peninsula Dr. A wonderful specialty grocery store with gas station, restaurant and sandwich shop are a mile away at Mapleton on Center Rd.

The guest cottage has central air conditioning and is kept completely updated: see photos. Outdoor accommodations include beach chairs with a table, beach umbrella and lounge chairs for the beach, chairs and table in the shade overlooking the beach, as well as chairs on the covered porch.

Color tours and wine tasting are spectacular in the fall.

Traverse City area amenities include 2 fabulous Farmers' Markets each week, the Warehouse District with it's brew pubs, other downtown brew pubs, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons with its unique restaurants (Stella, Pepe Nero and Red Spire Brunch House, among others), Mercado specialty shops and restaurants, Interlochen Arts Academy concerts, and the state of the art Traverse City State Theatre with its film festival nights.

There are wonderful hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails on Old Mission Peninsula, including Pyatt Lake Preserve, just steps away from the guest cottage, and Traverse City has the bicycling and walking TART Trail that currently goes from Acme to just beyond Suttons Bay.

SHORT TERM RENTAL REFLECTIONS & REALITIES
We offer a small, casual, directly on waterfront beach cottage. Our rates are based on that advantage. It is comfortable and functional for two adults. If you don’t plan to take advantage of the beach or recreate here you will not be getting your money’s worth. This is not just a place to sleep.
The guest cottage is 37 years old. It is continually updated. Set in the natural habitat of woods, sand and lake. Fruit farming in this rural area also influences the plant life and wildlife we live with seasonally.
We have thoughtfully curated our rental opportunity to best serve the experience for all: occupants, owners and neighbors and of course, the zoning of the township. Two adults, dogs under control at all times, no children and no guests at any time. No exceptions. Please be respectful of our choices. We are grateful to be able to share the advantage of our comfortable, large lot, no-stress experience here with concurring folks.
Our property is on a small bluff to the beach and water. It is reachable by a shady path, approximately 150’ directly out the cottage front door. There is a narrow, sandy cut through the bluff with posts to add stability for you if you care to use them. Folks with mobility challenges may find this access uncomfortable.
Please familiarize yourself with our rules and description before booking. We post many pictures and narratives to help you assess the opportunity. And, of course, we are always available to answer your questions. At that point you will be ready to come and have a fabulous time at the only direct access, all-sand beach, short term rental on the Old Mission Peninsula.

Renting 7 nights or more earns a 10% discount of the rental rate.

Bookings for 2024 are being accepted from February 1, 2024 thru October, 2024.

Beautiful location. Wineries close by. Near Traverse City for restaurants and shopping. Hosts were next door and friendly. Just wish we had come earlier in the year because the water was too cold for swimming. Otherwise it was a fantastic visit.

Could not have been better!
We enjoyed our stay so much that we are hoping to book again next year. The hosts were friendly and the cottage was absolutely spotless. There are plenty of nice restaurants nearby, but it was hard to leave the lovely beach just steps away from the cottage. We have rented Up North for years and this was our favorite place. Can't wait to go again.

Beautiful spot, clean dwelling. Problems with Rental: Fruit flies, Terrible TV situation, no washing machine or dryer, no garbage disposal. Owner wouldn’t allow any visitors including our disabled upper 70’s in-laws to visit for the afternoon. Had to get dog sitter to go out to eat since owner wouldn’t allow leaving pet there. Traverse City very congested. Not a good experience.

Guest house with private beach on beautiful Traverse Bay
The guesthouse on Old Mission Peninsula was clean and comfortable. The best part of us was the short walk to a private beach on the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay. We spent many hours on the sand and in the water which was warm and clear. The guesthouse was a short distance from many of our favorite wineries which we visited. Nancy and Norm were friendly hosts and made our stay memorable.

Great Location in TC Wine Country
Great location for exploring the Old Mission Peninsula. The Guest house was small but well appointed for all my adult daughter and I needed for our Up North getaway . There was a noticeable musty odor and many cobwebs but we were still happy with the setting .

Beautiful!
The property is gorgeous! The hosts are incredible too - we accidentally locked ourselves out of the guesthouse when we walked to the beach and they were able to get us back in within minutes of texting them about our situation. During our stay, we enjoyed their clean beach and downtown Traverse City (~15minute drive). Next time, we plan to stop at one of the vineyards that is conveniently between the guesthouse and downtown. We highly recommend staying here for a fun weekend trip!

Nice, clean cottage for two. Beautiful, quiet area by a sandy beach. Try the casual local restaurant (Jolly Pumpkin). Check times businesses in the area and Traverse City for times open as some are closed on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays. Certainly a great vacation!

You could hear yourself think!
It was very quiet, which we enjoyed. We wish it was a little bit closer to the water, but it is not ideal for someone with agility/balance issues. We loved the bed and the couch. The toaster didn't work well. All in all, it was a lovely escape.

We had a lovely time! The hosts responded immediately to any questions, the kitchen has everything you might need, and the nautical art adds a personal touch. Unless you absolutely must have a king bed, this is the place to stay near Traverse City.

The location was perfect. There is a beautiful beach and it feels like you are way out in a private spot but yet it is a close drive to all the fun and amazing things that the Traverse City area has to offer like light houses, wineries, shopping and other quaint towns to explore. And best of all they welcomed our dog too.

The cottage was perfect for my husband and me. A short path out the back leads to a beautiful private section of the beach on Lake Michigan.
