We spent 6 nights here with our two young adult children. We had a great week and enjoyed the access to Tulum, Sian Ka’an and the beach as well to Coba and the cenotes. The hands down highlight of our stay was the opportunity to spend time with Saul and the Mayan school children. We were grateful to help twice during the week with English and art, as well as with the bottles for the walls of the school they are building from recycled materials.
We had one meal prepared for our family, which was very good and provided copious quantities that even filled up our 6’3” 18 yr old son with leftovers to spare! Although, it was not prepared by Christina (the chef mentioned) it was still delicious and a very good value. We made all breakfasts and lunches ourselves in the kitchen that was stocked with the necessities, including a nice cooler and thermos water jug for packing food for excursions. There was also bottled water for consumption.
As far as accommodations go, if you stay here, you are likely to be someone who is game for a unique experience which combines jungle, farm and urban living. The photos online accurately represent the cool house, but the grounds are much more “rustic” than pictured, with a resident family of turkeys, chickens, a rooster, peacock (male and female), and bunnies. Being in this setting, we saw a variety of birds and bugs. The house truly is located right next to the road to Coba 16 km from Tulum. Between the road noise and the rooster, we found the best way to sleep was with all windows closed and the bedroom A/C units on. There are two beds and a fold down futon. I think 6 would be a bit tight unless they were smaller kids. There is an upstairs apartment on the 2nd level of this house. It was not apparent to me when we rented this unit that we would be sharing this property, but it really was not an issue at all. The yoga studio, which we had access to, is on the 3rd level though, in a loft above the apartment. Access to the yoga studio involved walking through the living room (screened in area) of the upstairs apartment. Again, while we were there this did not present any issues at all. The WiFi was sufficient for our needs.
Our family enjoyed our stay here. It is a unique property, Saul could not have been kinder, and I think we will remember this experience fondly for something different from the typical luxurious all inclusive Mexican resort vacation that many places offer.
