We love visiting the MGV with our family. The hotel offers a lot for everyone. The breakfast buffet is excellent, the outdoor pool is beautiful and if it’s raining they have an indoor pool. They have plenty of activities to keep you busy, which is great for us since we have two active boys. My younger son enjoyed the farm and playground, while my older son loved the game room and tennis courts. If we stayed an extra day, he would have taken a mountain bike out for a trail ride.

I’ll start by sharing this hotel has been very special to my family. My great grandmother was a waitress here in her 20s. My husband and I stayed here when we got married in 2018 and have come back each year since (besides Covid 2020). We now bring our two children with us. The grounds are beautiful, rooms are clean. We were disappointed in the amenities this year. In previous years s'mores and morning coffee were included. (Now they are extra.) Also there was not a farmer at the farm Sunday morning. Dinner was also disappointing. The menu seems to be smaller (and the quality of the food has gone down.) We ended up cancelling our dinner reservations the 2nd night and driving to Gorham. We also cancelled our breakfast the 2nd morning and drove to Littleton. For an expensive resort I expect the little things like coffee and s’mores for kids to be included. That has what has set MVG apart from other quality hotels, in the past. It saddens me to say I do not think we will return.

Good experience - could easily be great!
We had a good stay and there have been some great improvements to the property, including the dining area. However, in comparison to past years, there has been a decrease in amenities and services. Most ‘services’ have an additional cost, there were amenities that were not available like the hot tub. The resort fee should just be included in the nightly stay.

Excellent place to stay
Loved this charming hotel! Rooms are decorated nicely and offer beautiful views. There is a great outdoor pool, a smaller indoor pool and a well appointed fitness room. We loved walking around the property and visiting the farm animals at the hotel farm.

Historic Treasure
The Mountain View Grand is a treasure of American history. The modern updates enhance the comfort but still maintain the time period feel. Our family enjoyed the private movie theater where we got to choose our own movie and relax in reclining chairs. Our kids loved the activity room, lawn games, pool, and seeing the animals in the working barn and farmyard.

This property is beautiful and tucked away on 1700 acres. The golfing looks like it would be fantastic, if I were a golfer. The farm is a nice bonus for adults and kids alike. It’s a little sleepy here for my taste, as there is no entertainment on property in the evening, except for dining. You can use the movie theater, if you would like to show a movie from their book, and that is a unique experience.

Okay stay but wasn't what we expected.
We stayed here over July 4th when our original plans changed. We spend a lot of time in the Lancaster area & always wanted to stay here. Room was nice. We only had a partial mountain view, mostly just trees, but we hadn't requested a view. The hotel is kept in good condition given it's an older building. Our room was very comfortable & bathroom was nice, clean, & spacious. We planned to eat at the hotel one night but after reading many reviews about the quality we decided against it. While the person who checked us in (Linda) was extremely pleasant and efficient, that wasn't what we witnessed with all checkin staff. One told a mom & child when they asked about refilling the water container in the lobby to go to get water from the ice machine upstairs as bar was too busy to fill. We were told the outdoor pool opened at 8am on Sunday only to find out it opened at 9am that morning. There is only a small store that mostly sells hotel merchandise with only a handful of very overpriced candy bars, chips, & a very limited selection of bottled drinks (coke, sprite, ginger ale, bottled water.) There are no vending machines. Most stores & restaurants in the area close by 9p. There were a TON of large families with young kids when we arrived, running all over hotel, lobby, & porches. Very loud in their rooms & hallway, even past 10pm. Not what I expect at a grand hotel. Overall I would give 3.5 stars.

Very clean impressive property! Beautiful gardens and golf course! The pool area was very entertaining with music and a bar. The restaurant selection is limited. That to me is the only downfall. We only had one choice of a place (The Tavern) to eat in the prices were very expensive and the menu was more gourmet and less casual. We went offsite to eat a few meals. Also, a bit disappointed that the lovely doesn’t provide coffee in the morning for their guests. $4 a cup in the provisions shop.

Limited menu at restaurant for dinner, the bar used the same menu. There were no small plates available to order. I guess we could have ordered a pizza from the club house or bar but that’s what we had for lunch. The door to our bathroom would get stuck closed. We had to put a little effort into it to get it to pull free. The view from our window was a rooftop with ventilation duct work and fan units all about. On top of that there was a $40 resort fee added onto our bill when we checked out. I guess I better read the fine print next time.

I wanted to be able to give a 5 star however I cannot get over the horrific lobby renovation that sucked the historic charm and warmth out and replaced it with what I would call modern and cold. This is New England not downtown Jersey City Hilton:( I was so sad and don’t think I can get over the ruined lobby and bar area. I give 4 stars because the rest of the hotel has remained in tact and we did enjoy our time. Food is expensive but I highly recommend dinner and the pizza is great. I miss the piano player in the lobby on the veranda and the door man who always had a smile for us. The little touches that we loved so much are now gone and I’m afraid this is the future of this hotel under the new leadership so sad:( you can’t beat the view at least they can’t change that!
