I recently stayed at Hotel Ballast, and while there were some positives, I left feeling disappointed overall. The good: The staff were incredibly kind, respectful, and helpful. Our check-in process was smooth, and they kindly allowed us to check in early, which was much appreciated. The bed itself was comfortable, and the hotel has a nice atmosphere. The not-so-good: Unfortunately, the cleanliness and attention to detail in the room were not up to par for a hotel of this caliber. Upon entering, we noticed dry blood stains on the bed sheets, which was very unsettling. When we called the front desk, the staff were understanding but couldnā€™t switch our room since the hotel was fully booked. Housekeeping replaced the sheets, but the ā€œnewā€ ones also had pen stains. For the price we paid, I expected clean, unstained linens. Additionally, the toilet in our room had visible brown stains around the rim, which was another disappointing detail that detracted from the experience. Overall, the staffā€™s kindness and efforts made the stay bearable, but I wouldnā€™t choose to stay here again. Cleanliness and attention to detail are crucial, especially for a hotel that markets itself as high-end.

The new restaurant was amazing! Breakfast restaurant was ok. Hispanic AA meeting on Friday night was a nightmare! Screaming and shouting in the hallways ! Our door was pounded on! Where is the security? It made us feel very unsafe!

Overall a nice place to stay on the river front.
The room was a bit small, the decor was very nice. The view of the river was beautiful. Great location on the river walk, and one block from Front Street. Breakfast was awesome. The sink in the bathroom was way too shallow. It was very awkward to rinse a tooth brush or put water in a cup. If the faucet was higher it would have been ok. The rooms do not have refrigerators. We always use them when we travel.

Front desk and valet staff were extremely nice and helpful. Make sure you read the in room amenities - No fridge, no coffee/tea maker. Shower water pressure was a light rain, if you like that. Toilet flushing, watch it swirl for 90 seconds and try again. TV didnā€™t work and maintenance came by while we were out and ā€œfixed itā€ only to have it stop working again after trying to change the channel. Food in the bar was subpar for the price. $20 for a burnt crab cake and another $10 for an overdressed Caesar Salad with no flavor. Wonā€™t be returning in December.

We were very excited to have a hotel close by the wedding we attended, but after our arrival (which was late in the evening) when we entered the hotel lobby, there was a very unusual odor (almost like a sewer smell). My husband and I just shrugged that off, as we were both exhausted. However, when we took showers, the water wasnā€™t draining well at all, so we were left standing in several inches of dirty water while we tried to shower. The worst part of the stay was that around 2 am, we all 4 woke up drenched in sweat because the temperature was almost 80 degrees in the room, yet the thermostat was set to the cool setting and we couldnā€™t get it to change. My daughter went to the gym to cool off and I had to sit next to the cold window to cool down. We didnā€™t complain at that point because it was so late. When we checked out the next morning, the front desk told us they would comp us for half of the bill, but only refunded us for the $25 valet parking. We were told they couldnā€™t do anything more except give us another one night stay because we booked through a 3rd party. One positive note, thoughā€¦.. the coffee at the coffee bar downstairs was excellent. We couldnā€™t make coffee in our room because the coffee maker didnā€™t work either.

The front desk staff were nice. The hotel is dated but comfortable. The phone in the room did not work so we could not easily call down to the Valet and the alarm went off at 6am the first morning. Also I was overcharged for parking and food that I did not use or receive. The front desk staff refunded the charges but still waiting on the pending charges to fall off my credit card. Overall the stay was pleasant, I would give them another try in the future.

I was surprised that forca Hilton property there were no refrigerator or microwave in the room. The property itself is old and in need of some updates in the bathroom.

Nice hotel right next to the Wilmington River Walk. We were there during the Marine Corps birthday celebration and enjoyed seeing the Marines in their dress uniforms. We would have liked to have spent more time in the pretty outdoor area but there was already a large group celebrating in that area. Will definitely return for another weekend.

Total Failure
We didn't expect to haul our own luggage to the 5th floor in a Luxury Hotel. Parking lot was behind the hotel and creepy on night of arrival. Our bathroom smelled of urine and the sink didn't drain. Night time housekeeping got rid of the smell but couldn't fix sink. Late supper in hotel restaurant was fair at best. Hilton wouldn't adjust our rates because of third party reservation. They gave us free parking and a restaurant coupon instead. Second day the sink was fixed but the smell was back as was the cleaning crew. Management was supposed to call and address these issues with us but never did. Nighttime assistant manager offered us a free night to give them a chance to make it up to us, but haven't received it yet. Breakfast was good though.
