The hotel is showing were and tear and needs attention. The room was not very clean when we checked in. The towels and sheets are old and look stained and yellow. The bathroom is in bad condition. The shower is old and creaks when you get in. I thought the faucet was going to come out of the wall. Overall the condition is very worn and out of date.

There was black mold in the ceiling but I understand they are near the water so its extremely difficult to keep the walls and ceiling from getting moist. We only stayed 2 nights it did not effect us. Also the staff was so nice and accommodating.

We have been to Shell Island Resort numerous times since it opened in the 1980s. The rooms are almost all the same, in spite of being mostly privately owned. They have great views of the best beach in NC and easy access to the water, but the room layout is a bit odd. Our room seemed dated and in need of remodeling, but it was comfortable. We'll go back.

This resort is a bit run down and gives poor value for the amount it charges, which included a high fee for parking. The bathroom in our room was shabby. The best feature was direct access to the beach. We did not eat in the restaurant or visit the bar.

Our room was not very clean. I had to request a broom to sweep our room myself. I was even asked to come get the broom myself! There was peanut butter smeared all over one of the lamps in the bedroom. Our TVs did not hardly work. The screen kept blacking out and the remote would only randomly work. We never got an apology nor was anything ever fixed.

Small ant problem resulting in us having to change rooms. We loss the beautiful panoramic view in doing so. Hated that but understood the need to change rooms! Beautiful access to beach! Clean beaches!

Nice place. Could stand some improvement.
Service wasn’t great. 2 people stayed for three nights. We had two towels and three washcloths. During the week it was super quiet, but because the bedrooms were on the side where the walkways are, people were super loud and rowdy on Friday night and early Saturday morning when we were trying to sleep. I did like the resort because all the rooms are ocean front and would stay again as long as it’s during the weekdays.

I liked the location & the beach wasn't crowded. I liked being on the beach and the easy walk. the staff was friendly & easy to get supplies from the front desk. I was disappointed that in a 4 night stay, no housing keeping at all was offered, not even every other night which is the standard that other hotels are offering now. The bathroom floor got wet and we wiped up the water and it was gross how dirty the towels became. Also the rooms should have been quick house keeping meaning trash emptied, bed made, floor swept & basic supplies replenished like Toilet paper, towels, paper towels etc. For as almost $400 a night, the hotel needs to meet the industry standard that if a stay is more than 2 nights, basic house keeping every other day. Also we ate at the restaurant & food was horrible. Burger ordered at medium as hard & so over cooked it was dry. The shrimp where clearly sat out and old/hard. The restaurant is so poorly run that we did not go back and didn't order drinks or anything from it after our first experience. The property overall is nice and we would go back but would look for better prices considering the lack of housekeeping & poor quality food
