Excellent space with two bathrooms and two bedrooms -- has an open concept feel but use areas are still divided because of the multi-level plan (different areas include a sitting room with TV, kitchen, and a second sitting area with daybeds and nooks that opens to the balcony). Kitchen is fully-equipped for cooking.
One of the best features was the balcony that looks out from the back of the building onto the Batavia Kill, which also has some grassy frontage with some outdoor chairs for river-gazing and creek-walking, a table, and a portable BBQ.
Easy, walkable access to a variety of amenities in Windham -- between the country store next door and the Italian deli and sundries market, we easily picked up most of what we needed with short walks. "Pedestrian" dining options like the tap house on the bottom floor and the diner down the street were quite good, and VERY convenient, and there's also a fine dining option (The Millrock) in town that was truly excellent.
The proprietors were very kind and gracious -- after our initial walkthrough and some small talk, they left us entirely alone but were never more than a phone call (Suzanna's cell phone number is posted throughout the apartment) or even a holler (they live on the floor below but not directly under the apartment) away. We also received loving visits from their cat, who was equally friendly while remaining unobtrusive!
The only drawback was that the area can get noisy between the main street traffic (the bedrooms face the street, and the restaurant downstairs gets beverage deliveries early in the morning) and other building renters (which is obviously a chance you take anywhere). Noise travels through the older windows and thin walls. Strategic sleeping arrangements, fan usage, and window closures, however, truly can compensate for noise issues (one night we spent the first portion of the evening in the bedroom to avoid party noise, then switched to the balcony-adjacent room and avoided early morning traffic!). If you're heavy sleepers or younger folks (we're middle-aged and sometimes prone to insomnia), then it probably won't even be an issue.
Overall a lovely experience -- it was just the two of us, so this well-priced apartment that can sleep six, well-located for dining and hiking, was just the thing. Would rent longterm if we can get away for long enough!
