Annie can be found nestled under a re-appropriated Dutch barn. Step inside to a traditional shepherd’s hut interior which provides a wood burner for the cooler winter months. The country-style kitchen is a delight; home cooked meals can be enjoyed at the dining table opposite. The kingsize bed is tucked away at one end, and the house shower room at the other. Handmade oak shutters provide a dark night’s sleep. A TV with DVD player is provided for your entertainment. As there is no TV signal due to the location, a selection of DVD’s is provided along with some great board games, including Scrabble and dominos. The outside area is covered, with seating, a fire-pit/BBQ and Ofuro hot tub. Enjoy the exceptional starry nights that the North York Moors National Park is famous for. The local deer graze around the shepherd’s hut and there are plenty of birds and other wildlife to watch. A babbling stream runs along the back of the shepherds’ huts which adds to the ambiance.
If you can tear yourself away from this delightful base, then this area offers miles of walking and cycling opportunities, straight from your door. This area is renowned for its great food. The Black Swan in Oldstead, is within walking distance (1.3 miles), a Michelin starred restaurant owned by renowned chef Tommy Banks. As is his new venture The Abbey Inn (2 miles) and The Stapylton Arms (2 miles on foot) which James Martin reckons has the best scampi in the UK. Head out for the day and explore the ‘Jewel in Yorkshire’s Crown’, Helmsley, with its’ central marketplace surrounded by independent shops, tea rooms and restaurants, or perhaps spend some time in Thirsk, known as the birthplace of James Herriot. The ancient walled City of York is a mere 40-minute drive away, whilst the coast and popular seaside town of Whitby is just over an hour away. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, or golfing, or just wish to forest bathe, relax and unwind this stunningly located shepherd’s hut is the perfect base for your Yorkshire break.
