There’s something about opals that is so seductive. Many people spend their lives trying to find that perfect piece. Noodling (searching) for opals in the lunar landscape of Coober Pedy is a highlight. Stay in an underground house while you are there to escape the heat. It’s hard to say what the best attraction is. It could be the deserted homestead ruins, with desert winds whipping through. Or the par 72, 18-hole golf course, which is the only course in the world to have reciprocal rights with St Andrews in Scotland.
